NHL Same Game Parlays: Saturday (Panthers vs. Oilers)
The National Hockey League (NHL) has a pivotal Game 5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Saturday night, as the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers battle in their best-of-seven series, which is tied 2-2. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, and the game can be viewed or streamed on TNT/truTV/Max.
It’s likely our final hockey column of the season, and I appreciate you reading and sticking with me, as I took over in the spring. Let’s finish up strong! Florida Panthers at Edmonton Oilers – Parlay Option #1
- Leg 1: Oilers Moneyline (-110)

The 2025 Stanley Cup Final has been pretty wild, and the Panthers and Oilers are certainly building an unlikely rivalry. Florida and Edmonton are so far away from each other, but these two organizations will be forever linked now, similar to the 1980s, when the New York Islanders and Oilers had their heated battles for the chalice.
The Panthers fired out to a 3-0 lead, and Matthew Tkachuk had the first two goals via power play, and Florida looked like it was about to turn the lights out on Edmonton early. If the Panthers had won Game 4, they would have taken a 3-1 series lead with three chances to finish off the Oilers. It’s uncertain what was said during the first intermission, and who said it, but somebody stoked the flames, and the Oilers fired out of the locker room with their collective hair on fire in the second period with three goals of their own.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins posted a power-play goal at 3:33 of the second period, and that might have been the biggest goal. It got RNH going, and Leon Draisaitl picked up his 20th assist of the playoffs, with Connor McDavid adding a secondary assist, his 26th assist. The latter is still looking for his first goal of the Stanley Cup Final, though.
Darnell Nurse, Vasily Podkolzin and Jake Walman managed even-strength goals after Nugent-Hopkins’ power-play goal, as Edmonton rattled off four unanswered goals to go up 4-3. However, Sam Reinhart was able to force overtime with a goal with only 19.5 seconds remaining in regulation, as Florida used the extra attacker to extend the game.
However, Leon Draisaitl is one of the most dangerous players in the world, especially when it comes to overtime. He has four goals in overtime just in these playoffs, and it’s an NHL record for OT goals in a single postseason.
As you would expect for a series that is tied, the odds are super tight. In fact, at most shops, both teams are -110 on the moneyline going into Game 5. Flip a coin? Nah. We’re going to bank on the home team. While Stuart Skinner was pulled in Game 4 after the first period, there is no goaltender debate in Edmonton. Calvin Pickard came on, steadying the ship, and coach Kris Knoblauch would be crazy if he didn’t roll with Pickard as his starter. He is 7-0 in the postseason, and the only reason he conceded his job back to Skinner after taking over in Game 3 against the Kings was due to injury in the Vegas series. Pickard has been just as instrumental to the Oilers run to the Stanley Cup Final as anybody, and no one saw that coming.
As far as the total, this series has been wild. Normally, the deeper we get into a series, the scoring starts to settle down as the temperature starts to go up. We see heated tempers, more hitting, more physicality and, generally, more defense. But, in this series, the offense has remained constant, and we have had 8.0 combined goals per game in each of the first four installments of this series. Conventional wisdom says an Under has to be just around the corner, but common sense says keep riding the Over wave until it crashes.
For the first Same-Game Parlay (SGP), we’ll back McDavid to get his first goal of the series. He is on home ice, it’s Game 5, and the time is now for the best player in the world to get the job done.

- Leg 4: Brad Marchand – 1+ Shots on Goal (-1050)
- Leg 5: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – 1+ Shots on Goal (-1100)
- Leg 6: Leon Draisaitl – 2+ Shots on Goal (-590)
In addition to playing the Oilers and Over, let’s focus on shots on goal. Obviously, looking at the players we’ve targeted above, you should never play either of those props straight up. For instance, taking Marchand straight up to get at least one shot on goal would cost you nearly 11 times your potential return. That’s not a good, long-term and sustained successful betting model.
However, taking McDavid to get to at least three shots on goal (SOG) is a good play. He should be highly motivated for Game 5, especially since he is without a goal in the first four games, and there are plenty of murmurs. McDavid had four SOG in Game 4, and he had 11 assists in the first two games of the series in Edmonton. And, it isn’t like he has been horrible in this series, as McDavid does have six helpers in four games, just no lamp lightings.
Marchand is having a historic run in these playoffs, although his three-game goal-scoring streak ended in Game 4. He did have five SOG in that OT loss, however. He has had at least one SOG in eight straight playoff games, and two or more in seven of those outings.
For Nugent-Hopkins, he has at least one SOG in all 20 of his playoff games, and he has a total of five SOG in two home games in this series, and 25 SOG in nine games at Rogers Place in this postseason.
Lastly, Draisaitl had four SOG in Game 4, and he has three or more SOG in each of his past three home playoff games. He did get blanked in Game 3 in Florida, and he went without a shot in Game 3 at home against Dallas in the Western Conference Final, so be careful. This could be our riskiest leg.
