Oklahoma State Cowboys at Iowa State Cyclones Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Iowa State has had a somewhat disappointing season up to this point. The Cyclones were ranked in the Top 10 this year, but a pair of early losses knocked them out of the Top 25 altogether. As things stand, Iowa State is 4-2 on the year after suffering losses to Iowa and Baylor. However, the Cyclones have some wind in their sails at the moment, as they are fresh off a pair of victories (59-7 vs. Kansas, 33-20 at Kansas State).

Oklahoma State finds itself in a surprising position at this point in the season. The Cowboys are 6-0 and ranked eighth in the latest AP Poll. That’s where most pundits predicted Iowa State would be at this stage of the year, but the opportunistic Cowboys find themselves with the unblemished record. Will that continue in this tricky road matchup against the Cyclones?

Let’s cover all the betting angles of this Saturday afternoon showdown.

Overview

Is Oklahoma State much better than we expected this season? They had close calls against subpar talent earlier in the season, but the Cowboys also notched impressive wins against Baylor and Texas in recent weeks. Sure, they are probably overrated while sitting eighth in the latest AP poll, but it’s hard to deny that Oklahoma State is clicking at this point in the season.

Meanwhile, have the Cyclones recovered from their early-season losses? Are they finally in a position to realize their true potential that earned a Top 10 preseason ranking? The defense has been playing much better, as they rank third in the country for total defense. Run the ball with Breece Hall, and stopping the run on the other side seems to be the recipe for Iowa State. However, the Cyclones will need to slow down Oklahoma State RB Jaylen Warren to give themselves a chance. Warren has notched 100+ yards in four straight games, picking up more than 190 rushing yards in two of those.

Trends

  • The UNDER is 6-0 in Oklahoma State’s last six road games.
  • Iowa State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven conference games.
  • Oklahoma State has won eight games in a row dating back to last season.

Bottom Line

These teams are incredibly similar. Both sides like to control the game while running the football. However, I believe Iowa State does that better, and the Cyclones’ defense seems to be in better shape when it comes to stopping the run.

Iowa State provides enough resistance to OSU RB Jaylen Warren to control the field and time of possession. Then, Breece Hall does his thing, and the Cyclones end Oklahoma State’s undefeated streak.

The Pick: Iowa State -6
