PGA Betting Picks and Guide: Wyndham Championship (2021)

The longest season in all professional sports finishes this week as the Tour heads to North Carolina for the Wyndham Championship. With it, players can move in and out of the top 125 of the FedEx Cup rankings and play for the Tour Championship, which will go off in just a few short weeks.

With many of the Tour’s top players sitting this one out as expected, the field is wide open.

Let’s take a closer look.

Previous Winners of the Wyndham Championship

  • 2020: Jim Herman
  • 2019: JT Poston
  • 2018: Brandt Snedeker
  • 2017: Henrick Stenson
  • 2016: Si Woo Kim

Course Preview (Sedgefield Country Club)

Located in Greensboro, NC, Sedgefield Country Club is a Donald Ross-designed course and one that many of the players in this week’s field will be familiar with. What is described as a pretty straightforward course with few surprises, winners often go sub-20 under par on a course that is also shorter than post at 7,127 yards.

With only two par 5s, both reachable, most of the remaining holes are birdie-able par 4s that should provide ample scoring. The players will also be putting on recently installed Bermuda grass which we will keep an eye on as we dig into particular players who excel on it.

Outright PGA Betting Picks

Louis Oosthuizen (+1600 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Always the bridesmaid and never the bride; this is just the tournament that I could see Oosthuizen running away with. As one of the top guys in the field from a season metric standpoint, Oosthuizen is also one of the hottest.

He has three runner-ups in his last six starts, one 3rd, and the remaining two inside the top 20. Fire.

The numbers tell a similar story has he ranks #1 on Tour in SG: Putting, putts inside 10 feet, and inside the top 10 in Approach: 200-225 yards, scrambling, and SG: Total. He is also #2 in most consecutive cuts made at eight.

Brandt Snedeker (+6000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

Outside of Webb Simpson, there are few players with as storied of history here at Sedgefield than Snedeker. Winning the event (I know, down the road at Forest Oaks in 07′) in two different decades, Snedeker shot a 59 in his opening round in 2018 (one he opened with a bogey) and never looked back.

In his 10 rounds at the course, Snedeker has missed the cut just twice, and in addition to his 2018 win, has four top 10 finishes.

Looking at recent form, before missing the cut last week at the Baracuda Championship, potentially looking ahead to this one, Snedeker has two top 20s in July and is coming off a run in April where he finished T6 or higher in two of three consecutive events.
