PGA Betting Picks: Best Prop Bets for the 2021 U.S. Open

As the first tee time approaches this week at the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course, prop bets have flooded every major sportsbook with no shortage of options to choose from. While the main storylines will be the return of Jon Rahm post-COVID and Phil Mickelson looking to ride his momentum from the PGA Championship, a deeper look shows the value on the rest of the (stacked field). Let’s take a closer look at a few PGA betting picks I have my eye on across the prob bet market landscape.

Bet $1, to Win $100 on Bryson DeChambeau to Birdie >>

Top-20 Finish

Patrick Reed (+100 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

Not only did Reed win here earlier this season, but he dominated, finishing -14 and shooting a 64 in his opening round. Add in the fact he has three top 15s in his last four US Opens, and Reed is a solid (not great, solid) driver away from finishing low once again in a major.

Marc Leishman (+260 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

Leishman has finished inside the top 20 at Torrey Pines four times in the last five years and comes into this US Open playing some strong golf this year. Prior to missing the cut at the PGA Championship, Leishman had a T28, T5, and 1 finish on tour, winning the Zurich Classic in New Orleans just over a month ago.

A 2020 winner here at the Farmers Insurance Open, Leishman should come into this week with confidence and if he can get his driver going, crazier things have happened than a tour vet like him finishing near the top of the leader board.

Best finishing position (Tie no bet)

Xander Schauffele (vs. Jordan Spieth) (-152 at DraftKings Sportsbook)

No matter how you look at this tournament, it’s hard to look away from playing Schauffele this week as one of the top PGA betting picks. An excellent iron player and a guy who has the distance off the tee, Schauffele gets the added bonus of playing in his hometown this week.

A look at his history here also shows he finished runner-up at this course earlier in the year, and in his 10 starts of the 2020-21 season, he’s finished top 15 in seven of them. Add in the fact he’s facing a player in Spieth who has faded throughout the year and lacks the distance to really compete at Torrey, I like Schauffele to run away with this one by the time the weekend hits.

Top European Player

Jon Rahm (+280 at FanDuel Sportsbook)

In his five weekends here at Torrey Pines, Rahm has a win, T5, and T7 on his card, one of the best track records on tour. In his seven starts prior to being forced to withdraw at the Memorial this season, Rahm reeled in a T9, T5, T5, 7, and T8.

Yea, he’s dealing.

It’s easy to see why he’s the favorite to win outright heading into the week, with Rory (lol) his closest competitor in the European ranks. At nearly 3/1 odds, I love the value (the new father) he has to finish near the top of the leaderboard come Father’s Day as one of the top PGA betting picks.
