PGA Betting Picks: Best Prop Bets for The American Express (2022)
One week removed from starting the 2022 calendar year for the Tour in Hawaii for the Sentry and Sony Open, we now head to the mainland as things will really start to kick into gear. Starting Thursday, La Quinta Country Club in the Coachella Valley, CA, will play host to a full 150+ player field hosting amateurs and pros alike.
Let’s take a closer look at who might finish near the top and where the value remains as the first tee approaches.

Top-20 Finish
Sung-Jae Im (+200 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Having played just six events so far in the 2021-22 season, Im has already racked up three top 10s accruing an average round score of 67.6 along the way. The start includes a win at the Shiner’s Children Open in his second event of the season.
Taking a look at his course history here at La Quinta, Im has finished T12 or higher in all three of his appearances, having not missed the event since becoming a tour regular four years ago. This follows a trend has of starting seasons hot, posting a +1.21 Strokes Gained for events in the month of January, good enough for #7 in this week’s field.
Following a missed cut last weekend at The Sony, Im should come into this one well-rested and poised to go low in an event he always has.
Tony Finau (+225 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
While a closer look at the numbers, sentiments and course history makes it clear why Jon Rahm and Patrick Cantlay are the favorites, I’m taking a look at another veteran with a propensity to go low.
Looking at the same stat for January events, Finau ranks #3 in Strokes Gained at +1.68, trailing only Rahm and Jason Day. While he hasn’t performed the best so far this season, I think he gets back on track here at a place he knows well.
Having last played here in 2020, Finau tallied a course record 62 on the Nick Tourney course before struggling over the weekend to finish T14. With some of the easiest greens on Tour, Finau won’t be punished by his usual lack of putting, and I think we see his best result of the season thus far in this one.
