PGA Betting Picks: Best Prop Bets for the PLAYERS Championship (2022)
With the first major of the year just one month away, the attention of the PGA Tour turns to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL for the “unofficial fifth” major; the PLAYERS Championship. With a $20 million purse and 80 OWGR in play, the biggest names on Tour will be on hand this week looking to get a piece.
Let’s take a closer look at two guys I have my eye on in this week’s field.

Top-20 Finish
Hideki Matsuyama (+120 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
I like Matsuyama to have a chance to win this event, so I love for him to finish in the top 20 come Sunday afternoon. In his four starts at Sawgrass prior to last season’s missed cut, Matsuyama has two top 10s, not including his 2020 first-round 63 (tied for course record) in an edition later canceled due to the pandemic.
His form to start this season has also been outstanding, having yet to miss a cut and landing six top 20s, four top 10s, and two outright victories. Coming into this week, Matsuyama ranks #12 and #9, respectively, in SG: Approach 200-225 and 225-250; two distances that will translate to success this week at Sawgrass.
Add in the fact he’s #2 in this week’s field in SG over the last 10 rounds at Sawgrass at 2.18, and I like Matsuyama be near the top of the leaderboard on Sunday afternoon.
Collin Morikawa (-115 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Though I typically don’t like laying juice in the top 20 market, it’s hard to look past just how efficient Morikawa has been this season. In his five starts so far, Morikawa has yet to finish worse than T7, with four of those finishes T5 or better.
Coming into this week, Morikawa ranks #1 on Tour in Par 4 scoring, ball-striking, and adjusted scoring, as well as inside the top in SG: Approach; all four metrics critical for success here at TPC at Sawgrass. With just one official start here, his 41st place finish was after a slow start that ended with a Sunday best 66.
While many will be focused on Morikawa to win outright, his limited activity this season makes me pause there, but still love him to be in contention come the weekend.
