PGA Betting Picks: Best Prop Bets for the Valero Texas Open (2022)

TPC San Antonio will play host this week to the 100th edition of the Valero Texas Open, as the property’s Oaks Course will give these guys a run for their money. As it does annually, the Valero Texas Open serves as the final chance to qualify (if you haven’t already) for next week’s Masters at Augusta National.

Let’s take a closer look at two guys I think we see go low this week and find themselves near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday.

Top-20 Finish

Chris Kirk (+140 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
In his last four starts, which span the Wastement Open (T14), Honda Classic (T7), and Arnold Palmer Invitational (T5), Kirk has been knocking on the doorstep but unable to finish come Sunday afternoon. The shots have been there, however.

Coming into the week, Kirk ranks inside the top 20 on tour in Strokes Gained: Total, as well SG: Around the Green. As far as his history here at The Oaks, Kirk has finished T13 or higher in three of his past five starts here and comes into the week +1.37 in strokes gained per round over his last 24.

With a win here securing Kirk a spot in next week’s Masters, I like for him to be lurking near the top of the leaderboard come Sunday afternoon, Texas.

Top-10 Finish

Corey Conners (+225 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Another guy playing well as of late and who has had success at this course is Corey Conners. As of this week, Conners is #2 in the field in strokes gained per round (2.19) over his last 12 rounds at TPC San Antonio. Not only does he have a win here in 2019 (which qualified him for the Masters), but Conners won the qualifying event that Monday to even get into the field.

Add in a T26 and T14 in his other two appearances, and Conners is a guy who absolutely can go low here.

As far as his recent performances have gone, Conners comes into the week off of a solo 3rd in the stacked field that was at the WGC-Dell Match Play event in Austin last weekend. Going 5-0 in match play, Conners’ ball striking was the best it has been all season. The low finish also comes after two straight Tour events finishing T26 or better.

With his game rounding into form just as the Majors fire up, I like for Conners to be in contention come Sunday and in a position to bring it home as the day goes on.
