PGA Championship Odds & Picks: Best Round 3 Futures Bets

The 2024 PGA Championship is shaping up to be quite a finish, with star players sitting atop the leaderboard. Xander Schauffele holds a one-stroke lead over the previous 2020 PGA Championship winner, Collin Morikawa, who went red-hot on the back nine on Friday, making five consecutive birdies to wind up 11-under-par.

Scottie Scheffler’s incident off the course didn’t cause any major errors in his game, as he wound up shooting one stroke lower in Round 2, turning in a 5-under-par outing to sit three off the lead at 9-under-par. There are plenty of other storylines to focus on, but in this article, we’re looking ahead in the futures market to place a couple of best bets entering Round 3.

Viktor Hovland

We’re starting off with a plus-money top 5 finishing position wager on Viktor Hovland. The Norwegian golfer never would’ve seen this price available while occupying T8 on the leaderboard last year, but he’s been a shell of himself up until this week. Reuniting with his former swing coach may have a lot to do with this turnaround.

Through two rounds, Hovland has gone 3-under-par or better, crushing drives, approaching the greens with accuracy and confidence, and making several 16 foot birdie putts to look like he’s rounding into form. He won the FedExCup a year ago, including back-to-back at the BMW Championship and Tour Championship. Hovland knows how to win on the biggest stages, so a top-five finish at Valhalla is well within reach if he continues playing like we’ve seen in Round 1 and Round 2.

Pick: Viktor Hovland Finishing Position Top 5 (+260)

Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas’ homecoming to Louisville, Kentucky got off to a bit of a shaky start in Round 1, converting only one birdie and missing several short putts to wind up 1-over-par through the first 12 holes. He improved in Round 2, going 4-under-par and ranks 25th strokes gained: off the tee, 15th strokes gained: approaching the green, and 21st strokes gained: around the green.

His driving accuracy thus far has been less than desirable, but he can crush balls off the tee, ranking 16th in driving distance, which compensates. Thomas has a T5 and T21 in each of the last two Signature Events he’s played, so let’s eat a bit of juice at stake a unit on his top-20 finishing position odds at -150.

Pick: Justin Thomas Finishing Position Top 20 (-150)
