PGA Tour Betting Picks and Guide: Genesis Invitational (2022)

With the Waste Management Open now come and gone, we’re now inside of two months until the first Major of the year; The Masters. This week, however, will feel like a Major in many ways, as almost the entire top-20 in FedEx Cup rankings will be in the field which is smaller than most weeks (120).

Hosted by Tiger Woods, this event always draws the big names as the purse is higher than most weeks as is the level of competition. Let’s take a closer look at the star-studded field and see where we can derive some value.

Course Preview (Riviera Country Club)

Widely considered one of the best golf courses in the United States Riviera has played host to a handful of major championships and in 2028 will play host to the Los Angeles Olympics. Coming at just over 7,300 yards (Par 71), it’s slightly longer than the Tour average and driving distance typically plays a big factor in determining the winner.

Riviera is also home to long some of the longest Par 4s on Tour, with most coming in the 460-500 yard range. The greens are laid with Poa, and Kikuyu is the rough of choice.

Outright Betting Picks

Patrick Cantlay (+1000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)

There’s no one on Tour right now who has started 2021-22 on a more torrid pace than Cantlay. In the four events he’s played in the slow ramp-up to Augusta, Cantlay has finished 9th or higher in all four events while scoring higher than 68 in just two of those 16 rounds.

Currently #6 on Tour in SG: Off-The-Tee, #14 in putting, and #4 in SG: Total, Cantlay is picking up right where he left off after winning the FedEx Cup by nearly 800 points. And then there’s his history here at Riviera.

In his last four weekends here, Cantlay has never finished worse than 17th and has a solo 4 back in 2019. Playing amongst the first full field of the best in the world this weekend, I like for Cantlay to be in contention come late Sunday.
