PGA Tour Betting Picks and Guide: Houston Open (2021)

After a three-part international stint spanning three different countries, the PGA Tour returns to the United States this week for two more events before concluding the year. Starting Thursday, Memorial Park Golf Course will host the Houston Open for just the second time.

With a relatively shallow field set to compete, let’s examine some of the best betting options.

Course Preview (Memorial Park Golf Course)
Despite the Tour having stopped here just once before, the course has gotten plenty of attention for its difficulty. At just over 7,400 yards, Memorial Park is the fourth-longest (and fifth-toughest) course on the PGA Tour this season.

Featuring larger than average Bermuda greens larger than the average on Tour, the course also features deep Bermuda rough, which should pose the toughest challenge this week.

Outright Betting Picks

Brooks Koepka (+3000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Koepka has looked like a shell of his former self in the lead-up to the Houston Open. After sputtering at the end of last season, he missed the cut last week and failed to finish inside the top 30 two October events.

However, this is the same guy who went T2 at the PGA, T4 at the US Open, T5 at the Travelers, and T6 at The Open this summer.

Also in Koepka’s favor, he’s playing at a course he helped architect Tom Doak design, and he already proved to fit his game here just fine. Last year, played the week before the 2020 Masters, Koepka turned a slow start into back-to-back 65’s over the weekend to finish T5.

While I usually like to save Koepka for majors, he could enter this event feeling slighted at the long odds and dominate a course he knows as well as anyone else in the field.

I’ll take him as a long shot to win at 30-1.
