PGA Tour Betting Picks and Guide: Sony Open (2022)

Part 2 of the Hawaii swing kicks off Thursday in Honolulu as the Tour swings West following its recent stop in Maui for the Sentry. In what will be the first full field of 2022, 130+ of the world’s best will go at it, with 21 players from last week’s field sticking around for this one.

With seven of the last eight winners of this event having played the event prior, that’s a stat worth noting.

Let’s look at the field and see where the value remains.

  • 2018: Patton Kizzire

Course Preview (Waialae Country Club)
While the length won’t be of much concern this week, with the course coming in at just over 7,000 yards, the accuracy of drives certainly should be. With the rough reportedly 30%+ thicker than in years past, players who stay in the Bermuda fairways should fare the best.

As with all island courses, wind could be a factor, but forecasts call for mild gusts below 10 mph as of Tuesday. Despite being different than last week’s Kapalua in many ways, these guys should get similarly low on a course designed for scoring.

Outright Betting Picks

Kevin Kisner (+3500 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
One of the best iron players in the game, Kisner appeared to have them dialed in again last week in Kapalua after a tough stretch to end 2021. Finishing T8, Kisner shot 66 and 65 over the weekend and was near the top of the field in driving accuracy (77%) and Greens in Regulation (80.6%).

In his seven starts here at Waialae, Kisner has made all seven cuts and has three top-five finishes, including a solo 4th in 2020.

Taking a look at his recent form, it plays well for a course that should reward those accurate off the tee handsomely. Coming into this week, Kisner ranks #1 on Tour in fairways hit and driving accuracy and #9 in Greens in Regulation.

Look for the Georgia Bulldog to continue his program’s winning ways this week and for Kisner to be leading come late Sunday in Hawaii.
