PGA Tour Betting Picks and Guide: The CJ Cup (2021)

Typically held overseas on an island off the coast of South Korea, the CJ Cup returns to Nevada for the second straight year as the Tour remains in the Las Vegas area. Located just six miles from last week’s event at TPC Summerlin, this week boasts a full cast of PGA Tour heavyweights as the purse inflates to just under $10 million.

With the field being determined by last season’s FedEx Cup points and other exemptions for players from the Asian and Korean Tour, this week will feature just 78 players and no cuts.

Let’s look at the course and field and see where we can spot the edge.

Course Preview (The Summit Club)

With views that can see the Strip, The Summit opened in 2017 and will be relatively unknown for most of the field in this week’s event. A par 72 Tom Fazio design coming at 7,431 yards, the course is slightly below average in length and offers plenty of holes with birdie opportunities.

Featuring bentgrass greens that are also around the average size, the rough comes in at four inches in length and plays like most desert courses on Tour. However, the 62 bunkers in total will be the biggest change to those unfamiliar with playing the Arizona and Nevada circuit year in and year out.

Outright Betting Picks

Collin Morikawa (+1600 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
While not many have rounds under their belt at the Summit before this week, Morikawa has just a few. The two-time major winner is a club member and comes into this week with more playing experience at this course than much of the field combined.

One of the best ball-strikers on Tour, he also comes into this one fully rested after what was a whirlwind end to the 2021 season, which included stops at the Olympics in addition to the Ryder Cup, where he played near the top of his game. Expected by many to be in the mix with Rahm to claim the World #1 this season, there may be no better place in the World for Morikawa to start that journey than this weekend.
