Saturday’s Best NBA Picks: Pistons vs. Knicks
NBA odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook | All picks are for 1 unit
Detroit Pistons (+240) at New York Knicks (-295) | O/U 220.5 (-112/-108)
The Pistons won 44 games in the regular season, quite the turnaround from last season’s dismal 14-win showing in the 2023-24 campaign. The 30-game difference was the best turnaround by a team in NBA history after winning less than 20 games in the previous season. Detroit became the first NBA team to more than triple its previous win total, too.
Now, the Pistons are back in the NBA postseason for the first time since 2019. Can Detroit Basketball continue its meteoric rise against the New York Knicks? If the regular season series is any indication, the answer is yes.
Detroit won three of four meetings in the regular season, including each of the previous three matchups. New York won 128-98 in Detroit back on Nov. 1 as a 6.5-point favorite, while the Pistons won both visits to Madison Square Garden, covering each time as an 8-point underdog as the Over cashed. The most recent meeting was just nine days ago, with the Pistons winning 115-106 at home as a 3.5-point favorite as the Under (229) cashed for the only time in the past five in this series.
Detroit did stumble a little down the stretch, winning just one of the final five regular-season games. Of course, that lone win was against the Knicks, so there’s that. It was also Detroit’s only cover in the final five outings, and the Pistons were just 4-9 ATS in the final 13 games.
New York wasn’t much better, though, winning just once in the final four games, but it was 7-3 ATS in the final 10 games. The Under cashed at a 7-2 clip in the final nine outings, including April 10 in Motown, while the Under had a slight 4-3 edge in the past seven for the Pistons.
We’ll take the seven points with the Pistons, and let’s look Under in this series opener.
Picks: Pistons +7 (-106) & Under 220.5 Points (-108)
