ACC Tournament Picks & Predictions: Pitt vs. Notre Dame
(Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook)
Pitt vs. Notre Dame
The Pitt Panthers (17-14, 8-12) and Notre Dame Fighting Irish (14-17, 8-12) are first up for the ACC Tournament. Notre Dame won their regular season meeting (Feb. 22) in South Bend 76-72. Pitt was a 2.5-point road favorite for that game. It was a competitive contest that was tied up 30-30 at the half. The game remained close in the second half.
However, the Fighting Irish were able to get out to a nine-point lead late in the half, only to see Pitt make a valiant push down the stretch to still lose by four.
Pitt went on to lose their next three but got back on the right side of the scoreboard in their regular season finale, 93-67 vs. Boston College. Notre Dame followed the victory with a pair of losses but finished the season with two wins. Including a 4OT battle with Cal, 112-110.
I'm not sure why Pitt is the favorite in this game. Notre Dame has beaten them already; they struggled down the stretch, losing eight of their last 11, and Notre Dame is led by the leading scorer in the ACC (Markus Burton, 22.2 ppg). If Pitt had an above-average defense, then maybe I could see the Panthers winning, but Notre Dame looks like the better team by far in this game.
Pick: Notre Dame Moneyline (+160)
