Overview

The Steelers are coming off a relatively easy win to remain undefeated. The defense continues to play aggressively and fire on all cylinders. They have the defensive personnel to win individual matchups up front, but they also blitz at one of the highest rates in the league. Because of this, the Jaguars have a -79% pass blocking disadvantage, which is one of the worst I have seen this season. Offensively, the Steelers are only average. Despite having receiving weapons all over the field, the unit averages just 5.3 yards per play, which is No. 25 in the NFL. They are 24th in yards per pass attempt, at 6.5.

The Jaguars came to play in Lambeau last week. While the final score was close, the Packers really did have a firm hold on the game. Jacksonville benefited from a special teams touchdown and a rare, bad Aaron Rodgers interception. They will need to be much sharper to have a chance this week. Jake Luton regressed last week, completing just 51% of his passes for 169 yards. He is prone to mistakes and struggles when pressured, and we know Pittsburgh will bring the heat.

Defensively, the Jacksonville defense continues to be terrible, especially through the air. They allow a completion rate of 70.2%, which is the second-highest in the league. With Big Ben having receiving weapons all over the field, there’s little doubt of what Pittsburgh will do, offensively, when the game is close.

Trends

  • Pittsburgh is 6-1 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven games.
  • The total has hit the under in four of the last five games between Pittsburgh and Jacksonville.
  • Jacksonville is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games.

Prop Bet

All odds taken from FanDuel Sportsbook.

1st Quarter Spread: Steelers -3 (-102)
Pittsburgh is the 11th-best scoring team in the first quarter this season, averaging 6.2 points. Jacksonville has started games slowly, averaging just 3.0 first quarter points. Simply, I think the Steelers score a touchdown on their first or second drive, while the Jaguars struggle to find the end zone all day, but especially in the first quarter.

Bottom Line

The Steelers’ defensive pressure will be too much for Jake Luton. On the other side, the Jaguars are too willing to allow underneath catches to receivers. Pittsburgh will take advantage of this, and the receivers will do some damage after the catch to break some big plays.

Pick: Steelers -10
