Predators vs. Canucks: NHL Playoffs Same Game Parlay (Friday)

The 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have been sensational and we’re only halfway through the first round matchups. On Thursday, our +205 Same Game Parlay for Game 3 between the Florida Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Lightning wound up missing by one leg since we opted to go under 6.5 total goals in a game that the Panthers won 5-3.

Friday night has four games for us to wager and I’ve found some great value in a Western Conference series that is currently tied 1-1. Nashville returns home after dominating Vancouver in a 4-1 win on the road in Game 2, after surrendering the lead twice in Game 1, which saw the Canucks score two goals in 12 seconds halfway through the third period to seize a permanent lead.

This time, we’re adding a fourth leg to our Same Game Parlay to make the odds a bit longer than they’ve been in the previous two SGP articles. Make sure to follow me @Matt_MacKay_ on X to get more free plays, NHL Prop Bets, and NHL best bets during the week.

Friday's NHL SGP

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

Leg 1: Gustav Nyquist To Record 1+ Points (-170)

Skating on Nashville’s first-line attack and top powerplay unit, Gustav Nyquist has two points, both assists, through the first two games for the Predators. Nyquist benefits from playing alongside prolific goal scorer Filip Forsberg, plus veteran Ryan O’Reilly has a nose for finishing at the net.

Nyquist has notched a point in both games heading into Game 3 and has recorded one or more points when the Predators are home favorites in nine straight games. -170 is good value to use for the first leg in our Same Game Parlay between Nashville and Vancouver on Friday night.

Leg 2: Quinn Hughes To Record 1+ Points (-170)

Both of Quinn Hughes’ points came during the Canucks’ two-goal whirlwind in 12 seconds in Game 1. Vancouver’s highly talented defenseman is heavily involved within the offensive zone, which makes him a great prospect to insert in the same 1+ point market that we already added Nyquist from to form our first leg.

Hughes was held without a point in Game 2, but Juuse Saros, Nashville’s expected goaltender, has been a bit volatile in the crease. Saros has allowed three to four goals in four of his past five starts, facing less than 25 shot attempts in three of these contests. Hughes should find a way to contribute on a scoring play at least once for Vancouver on Friday night at Bridgestone Arena.

Leg 3: Over 4.5 Total Goals (-360)

We’ve learned our lesson about taking total goal unders and team total unders. Those have solely ruined multiple Same Game Parlays we’ve constructed. Instead, we’re going with over 4.5 total goals to be scored in this Western Conference matchup down in Nashville on Friday night.

We’ve talked about Saros’ streakiness defending the net already. Vancouver has confirmed Casey DeSmith as its Game 3 goaltender, which is good news for the Predators, as well as taking over 4.5 total goals scored.

All five games played head-to-head between the Canucks and Predators since October have resulted in five or more goals scored. 4-2 Vancouver and 4-1 Nashville have been the final tallies to start this playoff series, so it’s reasonable to expect a similar outcome yet again with two unpredictable goaltenders.

Leg 4: Nashville Moneyline (-115)

Oddsmakers have nearly made the moneyline odds a pick’em at FanDuel Sportsbook. It’s a difficult read based on the goaltender variance in this matchup, but I’m siding with the Predators to win outright at home. Nashville has recorded six consecutive wins as home favorites, plus they regained momentum in Game 2 after allowing the Canucks to steal Game 1 late in the third period.

Vancouver also hasn’t looked as sharp as they should, stumbling into the playoffs with losses to Los Angeles, Arizona, and Winnipeg to close out their regular season. Give me the Predators who have more veteran experience and a goaltender who performed much better in Game 2 compared to DeSmith, who gave up three goals on just 15 shots against.

Same Game Parlay Odds: +400

A few things need to go our way to cash this 4-1 SGP ahead of Game 3 between Nashville vs. Vancouver. Gustav Nyquist and Quinn Hughes both need to record at least one point for their respective teams. This shouldn’t be an issue based on their usage and talent within the offense, while facing mediocre goaltending.

The final two legs send us to the total goals market and moneyline odds. Taking over 4.5 total goals at -360 odds is a safe way to take a total without much fear of missing this leg, since we’ve seen five or more goals in every matchup between these two opponents since the start of the regular season. Nashville must win outright at -115 odds to seal our +400 Same Game Parlay.

It feels like it could easily be a 2-0 series in favor of the Predators if not for that quick sequence that saw Vancouver score twice in under 15 seconds to gain the lead and capture momentum in Game 1. A sloppy performance from the Canucks at home in Game 2 should give Nashville even more confidence heading back to their home fans at BridgeStone Arena on Friday night, where they’ve won six consecutive games as favorites.
