Recommended Plays for ThriveFantasy PGA (Thursday Only)

ThriveFantasy is a new Daily Fantasy Sports app that offers the everyday fan a unique way of playing DFS. Unlike DraftKings or FanDuel, ThriveFantasy focuses solely on top-tier athletes. Each athlete gets a certain total, and you must predict whether they will go over or under it. You choose five of the ten options given. The less probable the prop is to occur, the more points you receive if you pick correctly.

For the Genesis Invitational this week, ThriveFantasy is running a $25 Thursday Only, $2,000 Guaranteed contest. First place will win $500, and there are only 88 entries available. I will be diving into some of the best props to play in this contest. Remember, this is a Thursday only contest, and the golfers’ stats will only reflect their opening round numbers.

Prop 1: Tiger Woods Over 67.5 (total strokes)
It will take an incredible effort for Woods to start his week going under this total. Last year, Woods opened this event with a 70 and 71, and then he heated up with a 65 on Saturday. I expect a similar trend this year. He usually starts a bit slower and then gains momentum as he heats up during the week. Tiger has been off for a few weeks, and I expect him to shake some rust off early.

Prop 2: Rory McIlroy Over 3.5 birdies (total birdies)
The betting favorite to win this week, McIlroy posted a 63 at this event last year and can pile up plenty of birdies in a hurry. He is second in the field in birdie-or-better percentage and scores extremely well on longer par 4s. This course will feature seven Par 4s between 450-500 yards. McIlroy led the PGA Tour in scoring efficiency between this yardage last year.

Prop 3: Brooks Koepka Over 0.5 eagles (total eagles)
Making his 2020 PGA Tour debut, Koepka is always a solid bet for an eagle each round. He was third in the entire PGA last season in eagles per round. This course will feature two very short Par 5s that Koepka should be able to have a couple of birdie looks on.

Prop 4: Adam Scott Under 68.5 (total strokes)
Per PGA.com, Adam Scott leads the entire PGA this season in round one scoring average. He averages a score of 67.50 in his opening rounds. Last year at the Genesis Invitational, Scott opened with a 66 en route to a solid T7 showing. Scott has three top-15 finishes in his last four times out here.

Prop 5: Jason Day Over 67.5 (total strokes)
Day had a solid showing at Pebble Beach last week, but he has always played well at that course. This week, he will be making his first start at the Genesis Open since 2017, where he finished 64th. I like him to shoot over this number at a course he hasn’t had much success at. Day really tailed off last week in his final round and could still be a bit affected by his meltdown.
