Sanderson Farms Championship: Best Longshot Odds & Picks (2022)

With the Presidents Cup in the rearview mirror, we look forward to this week’s Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. As It has done every year since 2014, the Country Club of Jackson will host this event.

The Country Club of Jackson is a par 72, 7,461-yard track that was redesigned by John Fought in 2008 and incorporates some Donald Ross signatures. In typical Ross fashion, there are many small undulating greens that reward strong ball strikers who can put the ball close without needing to drain long putts.

Looking at the previous winners of this event, SG: Tee-to-Green and Greens in Regulation percentage (GIR%) are the top two predictors of success at this course. Below, I will give my two best longshot bets to win the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship.

Adam Svensson (+8000): 0.15u

At 80/1, Adam Svensson is worth taking a flyer on to capture his first career PGA TOUR victory. Fresh off a T12 finish at the Fortinet Championship, Svensson will look to carry that strong play into this week.

The best part of his game in that tournament was his ball striking, finishing ninth in SG: Tee-to-Green and 26th in GIR%. Svensson also was a solid ball striker last season, finishing inside the top-95 on TOUR in both SG: Tee-to-Green and GIR%.

On top of those metrics, he enters this tournament in great form as he has made 11 of his last 12 cuts. Of those 11 made cuts, six resulted in top-25 finishes, including his sixth-place finish at the Barbasol Championship.

We are probably getting such a long number on Svensson because he has failed to make the cut in each of his last two appearances in this tournament (though he did finish 39th in 2018). That being said, he enters this week in arguably the best form of his career.

Russell Knox (+8000): 0.15u

The other golfer we are targeting in the 80/1 range is Russell Knox. Knox’s ball striking was also displayed at the Fortinet Championship, a tournament where he finished T25.

In that event, Knox finished 24th in SG: Tee-to-Green and 42nd in GIR%, picking up right where he left off last season. One of the better ball strikers of the 2021-22 campaign, Knox ended the season ranked 42nd in SG: Tee-to-Green and fourth in GIR%.

Like Svensson, Knox enters this week in relatively good form as he has made four of his last five cuts on TOUR. Over that stretch, he boasts two top-25 finishes.

This is a course that Knox has played a few times previously, making two of three cuts, with each of those two makes resulting in top-35 finishes. If his ball striking is dialed in, he could absolutely make some noise in this watered-down field.

Other Outright Winner Plays:

  • Sahith Theegala (20/1): 0.4u
  • Thomas Detry (40/1): 0.3u

Best of luck!
