Seattle Seahawks vs. Philadelphia Eagles Odds and Game Pick (2020)

The Seattle Seahawks have lost three of their last five games… but they should be feeling relatively good about their situation right now. They defeated the Arizona Cardinals a week ago to move to 7-3, and they just got through the most brutal portion of their schedule. The Seahawks play three NFC East teams and the New York Jets in their next four games, so they have a great opportunity to affirm their place at the top of the NFC West. The Los Angeles Rams, tied with the Seahawks at 7-3, have already played their four NFC East opponents this season. The Seahawks know they need to avoid a stumble in this next stretch of games, beginning Monday night in Philadelphia.

The Eagles aren’t winning many games, but as everyone knows, the weakness of the NFC East is keeping the Eagles in the hunt for a division title and a home playoff game. Philadelphia will enter this game just half a game out of the division lead behind Washington, and the Eagles will host Washington later this season. The Eagles also play Dallas in the home stretch, and the Cowboys just suffered multiple key injuries in their Thanksgiving Day loss to Washington. The Eagles still have everything to play for, despite their 3-6-1 record. This is an opportunity to win a game few expect them to win.

Overview

The Seahawks’ offense, which had been averaging over 30 points per game through eight games, has been cooled off by opposing defenses. The Seahawks scored just 16 points against the Rams and then only 26 points (the defense scored a safety) in a 28-21 win over Arizona. Pass protection has slipped. The Seahawks gave up several sacks against the Rams. Against the Cardinals, the Seahawks threw the ball a lot less to shorten the game and reduce heat on Russell Wilson. The offense is looking for a spark against the Eagles, and the injury report provides good news for Seattle.

Starting running back Chris Carson and starting center Ethan Pocic will be back in the lineup after missing multiple games. These are vital pieces of the offense, and their absence partly explains the dip in production in recent weeks. If the Seahawks’ offense plays well against the Eagles, the return of first-string players can be identified as the main reason.

The Eagles get Vinny Curry back on their defense, a welcome sight for Philadelphia. However, offensive lineman Lane Johnson is out. The Eagles have been buried with offensive line injuries this season, and Johnson is their best lineman. The Seahawks’ defense has been poor, but the Eagles’ offensive line is not in the best position to take advantage of Seattle’s many flaws.

Trends

  • The Seahawks are 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games on Monday Night Football.
  • The Seahawks are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games versus opponents with a losing home record.
  • The Eagles are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games.

Bottom Line

The Eagles’ offense and quarterback Carson Wentz have been bad this year. Maybe Wentz can improve against a bad Seattle defense, but the Lane Johnson injury is going to make that process hard. Meanwhile, Seattle’s offense doesn’t have to score 40 points to win. Scoring 30 should be more than enough, given the Eagles’ injuries and offensive limitations.

Pick: Seahawks -5.5
