Overview

Entering conference play unbeaten, things derailed for Jimbo Fisher and company. A two-game losing streak to Mississippi State and Arkansas nearly upended the Aggies’ season. Yet following the monumental win over Alabama, Texas A&M handled business on the road last week, beating Missouri 35-14 and covering as 11-point favorites.

The Aggies have struggled to move the ball through the air, ranking 90th in the nation with just 211.0 passing yards per game behind sophomore quarterback Zach Calzada.

While the Gamecocks ended their win drought in the SEC last week, their problems haven’t vanished. Ranked 109th in points scored per game (21.9), South Carolina has failed to put up more than 23 points in any game this season.

The Gamecocks turned to their third quarterback of the season when sixth-year senior Zeb Noland entered last week’s game on their final possession, leading them 75 yards down the field to pick up the victory. The former graduate assistant coach will start under center this Saturday.

Trends

  • Under is 5-0 in last five matchups
  • Aggies are 3-0-1 in last four vs. Gamecocks

Bottom Line

While the Gamecocks certainly got a boost from Noland’s game-winning drive last week, not all SEC opponents are built the same. They’ll go from facing Vanderbilt, arguably the only team worse than then in this conference, to Texas A&M. The quarterback change is no longer a surprise to catch their opponent off guard.

With plenty of film on Noland for Fisher and his staff to pour over, expect a focused effort from Texas A&M. The Aggies are still contenders in the SEC West, as they now hold the tiebreaker over the first-place Crimson Tide.

Pick: Aggies -21
