What a match! The Swiss national team emerged from a three-three draw with the stunning shootout win on Monday and will look to ride that momentum to another upset, this time against Spain and their powerhouse offense.

Switzerland will have to do the unthinkable once again to wrestle their way past a Spanish side that has looked as dominant as expected this summer. Beating Les Bleus was miraculous enough. Three goals vs. a strong side like the French national team when they scored just four total prior to the round of 16 is proof positive that no result is certain in the beautiful game. They will need to pray to the football gods once again to advance, but as we have seen, prayers can be answered.
Spain have themselves a much easier draw with the Swiss but need to be careful to avoid playing down to their competition. One of most offensively potent sides during the group stage vs. a Switzerland team that conceded eight goals in four fixtures could have La Furie Roja looking ahead to Belgium or Italy. However, the French proved that taking a round of 16 team lightly could be a fatal mistake, especially for a team that ‘conceded’ two draws in one of the softest groups of the tournament.
Game Pick
Spain is the runaway favorite for this contest for good reason. Very few had the Swiss emerging from the round of 16, as they simply do not have the same level of talent as most of the remaining sides. Benfica striker Haris Seferovic has been class this tournament but was predictably blanked (along with the rest of his team) by the Italians during the group stage. Spain disappointed during the group stage by failing to take the top seed and allowing two draws versus questionable competition but should come into this contest highly motivated.
The Germans are out. The English are out. All that is left is England and Italy, who can be mentioned in the same breath when discussing powerhouse sides and betting favorites to win it all. Spain are strong enough to keep a clean sheet, but after conceding three goals to Croatia, all bets are off.
With La Furie Rojas at just -157 for the three-way regular time result versus -305 for Spain to advance, the value lies with the three-way wager. Yes, the advance bet is far less risky but also requires laying a little more than three units for a one unit return. I personally have no problem doing so for soccer, baseball, or ‘gimme’ football player props, so I’m all in on the advance bet, but for those who are less risk-averse, tap Spain in regulation.
