Wednesday's NHL Best Bets: Stars vs. Jets

(Odds courtesy of Bet365 Sportsbook)

Dallas Stars (-125) at Winnipeg Jets (+105) | O/U 5.5 (-120/+100

This second-round clash between the Stars (0-0) and the Jets (0-0) should be a thriller. Dallas survived a first-round matchup with Colorado and beat them in seven games, and it also took seven games for top-seeded Winnipeg to shake off St. Louis in the opening round. Game 1 between these Western Conference foes is set for 9:30 p.m. ET from the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, MB.

Both of these teams have lingering injury issues. For Dallas, they played the entire first round without top d-man Miro Heiskanen (knee) and LW Jason Robertson (knee). Winnipeg lost star centerman Mark Scheifele (undisclosed) late against St. Louis, while their top defenseman, Josh Morrisseey (upper body), departed Game 7 early. The big difference is that the Stars have proven that they can thrive without their elite players, which speaks to their excellent depth.

With all of that being said, I think the Stars are the deeper team overall. Even if Scheifele and Morrissey are good to go, Dallas will still put up a fight and likely be in this game down the stretch. Not to mention, the question marks surrounding Connor Hellebuyck and his vintage, downward-trending playoff form. The Jets are dead last in 5-on-5 GAA (3.46) this postseason. At this point, the Stars are the more complete, well-rounded team. I'll lay the juice with Dallas on the road in game one.

Pick: Stars Moneyline (-125)
