Super Bowl LVII: Best Non-Football Prop Bet Picks (2023)

I write a lot of betting preview articles during Super Bowl week, but this one might be my favorite. Instead of breaking down X’s and O’s, I break down set lists, song lengths, and Gatorade colors. It’s a fun diversion each year from the grind of handicapping the big game every year.

But of course, unlike my actual game bets, I am merely taking educated stabs in the dark. Without inside information, these non-football prop markets are more luck than anything else aside from the coin toss. And if you’ve got some intel, feel free to let me know on Twitter, @RealMattBarbato!

Best Super Bowl LVII Non-Football Prop Bets

Without further ado, here are my picks for this year’s non-football props.

Length of the National Anthem: Over/under 127 seconds

Country artist Chris Stapleton will deliver this year’s national anthem. And hand up, I am not a big follower of Stapleton’s music. In doing a deep dive into his music the last couple of days, I’d say his tempo is on the slower side. There’s also the possibility that Stapleton plays guitar during this performance, which could slow things down a bit.

Now, 2:07 is a pretty long time. And the average national anthem length since 2007 is 1:43, but only four performers during that time have gone under 1:50, which was Nicky Guyton’s time in last year’s game. And the last time a singer went over two minutes was Luke Bryan in 2017.

It feels like Stapleton is set to break that streak.

The bet: Over 127 seconds

Rihanna’s first song of the halftime show

I am admittedly more familiar with Rihanna’s work than Stapleton, which isn’t hard considering she pretty much dominated the radio during the 2010s. But Rihanna’s been out of the limelight for a while now and hasn’t toured since 2016.

During that concert, Rihanna opened every show with the slower song “Stay,” which is +1100, followed by Love The Way You Lie, which is a song she collaborated on with rapper Eminem.

My guess is Rihanna looks to hit the ground running harder, considering she hasn’t performed on stage in years. Her gap in tours makes this setlist a total wild card, but it’s worth mentioning that “Don’t Stop The Music” (+150 favorite) actually didn’t make the setlist during her 2016 tour.

I’m also going to throw out the second-favorite “Run This Town” and the fourth-favorite “This Is What You Came For,” as those both involve collaborations with Jay-Z and Calvin Harris, respectively. While I could definitely see either of these two joining Rihanna at some point, I think she starts this show on her own.

That leaves “Diamonds” as my top choice at +600. It’s one of her signature tracks, one she played as one of the last songs on her most recent tour setlist, and a perfect blend of a modest pace and vocals to start things off.

If I were to go pick a longer shot, I’d go with “We Found Love” at +1100. I know Harris was on that track too, but it feels like an easier song for just a band to play in case Harris isn’t there.

This is a really tough choice, as Rihanna has a ton of viable hits.

The picks: Diamonds (+600) and “We Found Love” (+1100) long shot

Gatorade Color Dumped On Winning Coach

Finally, we have to take a guess as to what color of Gatorade will be doused on the winning coach. Blue has gone on a nice run lately, as three of the last four Super Bowl coaches have gotten a blue Gatorade bath.

Yellow / Green is the consensus favorite, which makes sense considering the Eagles are favored to win the game. Orange is second, and blue is third. You may be thinking red should be higher on the odds, considering they match K.C.’s colors. But keep in mind that Andy Reid was dunked in orange Gatorade after this team won Super Bowl LIV.

This one feels simple, although completely random. If you like Philly, go with the favorite. If you like the Chiefs, take orange.
