Super Bowl LVII Bets to Fade (Eagles vs. Chiefs)

Super Bowl 57 is almost here! The Kansas City Chiefs will take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a matchup for all the marbles. These two teams didn’t face off during the regular season. However, they had an entertaining matchup during the 2021 season, with the Chiefs winning 42-20.

In that game, both quarterbacks were unstoppable. Patrick Mahomes had five passing touchdowns on 30 pass attempts, while Jalen Hurts had almost 400 passing yards and a pair of touchdowns. While these two teams have undergone massive changes since their previous matchup, fans should expect another entertaining contest in the Super Bowl.

Every year millions of dollars are bet on the Super Bowl. Whether it’s the spread, total, player prop bets, or Super Bowl specials, everyone has their favorite type of bet. However, there are several bets you should avoid, as the reward isn’t worth the risk. Here are four bets you should avoid for this year’s big game.

Four Super Bowl LVII Bets to Fade

The Gatorade Bath Color is a Scam!

There is no bigger scram when it comes to Super Bowl betting than the Gatorade bath. There is no logic as to which bucket of Gatorade will get dumped on the winning coach’s head. Both teams have won a Super Bowl in the past five years. The Chiefs won in 2020, and the Gatorade color was orange. Meanwhile, the Eagles won in 2018, and the Gatorade color was yellow. In the other three years during that five-year span, the Gatorade color was blue. If you want to take a shot at guessing the color, go with blue, as it’s been the color in three of the past four years. However, you’re better off spending that money on a more predictable bet.

Over 9.5 Players in the Game with a Rushing Attempt (+115)

Even if both teams give their quarterback and top three running backs a rushing attempt in the game, the total is eight. Furthermore, a random wide receiver sweep run pushes it to nine, still not hitting the over. The Eagles had 544 rushing attempts during the regular season, the third-most in the NFL. However, all but 13 rushing attempts were by Hurts and their top three running backs. Similarly, nearly 90% of Kansas City’s rushing attempts during the regular season were by the top three running backs or Mahomes. More importantly, the average number of players with a rushing attempt over the past five Super Bowls is nine, including four straight games with under 10 players.

Any Quarterback to Pass for 400 or More Yards (+1000)

This Super Bowl matchup will feature the top two MVP candidates this year in Mahomes and Hurts. However, this Super Bowl special prop bet is awful. You might think either quarterback could total 400 or more passing yards. Yet, the duo combined for only two games with 400 or more passing yards this year, both by Mahomes. That means in their 32 regular season games and the four playoff matchups, the two quarterbacks hit the 400-passing yard mark only 5.6% of the time. Furthermore, the Eagles held their opponents to only 179.8 passing yards per game during the regular season, the fewest in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Chiefs surrendered only 220.9 passing yards per game during the regular season.

Kansas City to Have the Most Rushing Yards in the Game (+270)

While this matchup features two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, let’s not forget the identity of both teams. The Chiefs are a pass-heavy offense, as Mahomes led the league in passing yards during the regular season. Furthermore, Kansas City called a pass on 61% of their offensive plays during the regular season and 61.5% during the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Eagles had the third-most rushing attempts and the fifth-most rushing yards during the regular season, averaging 147.6 rushing yards per game. More importantly, Hurts and Miles Sanders combined for 2,029 rushing yards during the regular season, while the Chiefs had 1,970 yards as a team.
