Super Bowl LVII Odds, Picks & Predictions (Eagles vs. Chiefs)

Andy Reid led the Philadelphia Eagles for 14 seasons without ever winning a championship and only making it to the Super Bowl once.

When he leads the Kansas City Chiefs against the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII on Sunday, he will be attempting to win his second championship in the previous four years. Since joining the Chiefs in 2013, Reid has a perfect record against his old team, as one more win here puts him with the likes of Tom Landry, Don Shula, and Bill Belichick as the only head coaches in NFL history with 200 career victories and multiple Super Bowl titles.

Philadelphia (16-3) finally won its first championship in 2017 under Doug Pederson, and in Nick Sirianni’s second season as coach at Super Bowl LVII , they hope to win another one.

The game will start at 6:30 p.m. ET from Glendale, Arizona’s State Farm Stadium, as we take a closer look at how things may play out.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles

Overview

Jalen Hurts had an MVP-caliber season in 2022 in which he ran for 760 yards and tied for the second-most touchdowns in the NFL on the ground while throwing for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns. The 24-year-old hasn’t been required to do much in the 2023 NFL playoffs thus far, which is fortunate due to a shoulder ailment that sidelined him for two games late in the season. Nevertheless, he has made an impact, completing two touchdown passes against the New York Giants in the Divisional Round and scoring on the ground in each of Philadelphia’s games.

After losing wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was dealt to Miami last March after posting his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season, many people thought Patrick Mahomes wouldn’t be as productive this season. The quarterback, who is still just 27 years old, disproved his detractors by leading the league with a career-high 5,250 passing yards and 41 touchdown passes.

The NFL record for the most passing and rushing yards combined in a regular season was established by Mahomes this year as well, who also ran for 358 yards and has the best passer rating (106.1) in postseason history (5,608).

Travis Kelce was Mahomes’ primary target this season, as Kelce achieved career highs in all three stat categories, placing third in the league in receptions (110), second in touchdown catches (12), and eighth in receiving yards (1,338).

Bottom Line

While the Eagles’ run has been impressive, I think the wrong team is favored in this matchup. With the edge nearly across the board with the exception of the defensive front seven, I’ll take the Chiefs to pull this one out late.

Pick: Chiefs +1.5 (-110)
