The next chapter of the PGA Tour season has arrived with golf’s elite set to make the journey to Pebble Beach, California for the U.S. Open this week. Outright Winners

Dustin Johnson
Odds At PointsBet Sportsbook: +800

All things considered, it’s impossible to overlook D.J. this week. The 2016 U.S. Open winner has dominated in the Pro-Am at Pebble Beach over the years. He won the 2010 Pro-Am and delivered a Top-10 finish in the U.S. Open at this course that year. With runner-up results in both the PGA Championship and the Masters, you can see the type of focus he brings for the majors. Among the favorites, he’s my favorite play.

Jordan Spieth
Odds At PointsBet Sportsbook: +1800

Brooks Koepka is tempting to take as the defending two-time U.S. Open champion, but no golfer in the last 100 years has won three straight U.S. Open tournaments, so Koepka will have his work cut out for him.

Spieth is worth a look because the 25-year-old seems to be rounding back in to form with three straight top-10 results heading into this event. His last three starts are a third at the PGA Championship, eighth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and seventh at the Memorial.

He hasn’t missed the cut at any of his last seven Pebble Beach Pro-Ams, including a win in 2017 and three other Top 10. +1800 is enticing, but you can also take on less risk and bet him to finish in the Top 10.

Top 10 Props

Rickie Fowler
Odds At PointsBet Sportsbook: +246

Fowler is still chasing his first major tournament win, but he does have three runner-up finishes and two third-place results on his resume. He produced Top-10 finishes in back-to-back events at The Masters and the Wells Fargo Championship, although he’s fallen off a bit of late.

He has three Top 10s in his last six starts at the U.S. Open and has finished 12th or better in six of his last 10 majors. He’s worth a shot here.

Best Matchups To Bet

Jason Day over Francesco Molinari
Odds At PointsBet Sportsbook: -159

Day has produced some excellent recent results at Pebble Beach, placing in the Top 10 in five of his last seven starts at this event. He’s battled some back issues this season, but he placed fifth at The Masters and seems to have put the worst of his problems behind him. Meanwhile, Molinari does not have a great track record at the U.S. Open. He’s finished no better than 23rd at the event while missing the cut in four of his last eight appearances.

Action At PointsBet Sportsbook

We caught up with Ron Shell (RS), VP of PointsBet Sportsbook to give us some insight into the early action. Here’s a look at where the money is for the 2019 U.S. Open:

Which golfers have generated the most action to win outright?
RS: Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Tiger Woods — in that order — so far in terms of the number of bets we’ve seen for Outright Winner.

So bettors are buying into a Tiger Woods run this weekend?
RS: A little bit but we also have a prop up on whether he will make the cut and we have a few bets on Tiger Woods missing the cut.

Any other props generating notable action?
RS: We’ve actually seen plenty of bets on Tiger or Brooks to win at +450. With that prop, you get both golfers and if either wins, you cash in.
