In the world of COVID-19 schedule adjustments, we have a new one, as the Buccaneers and Raiders game originally pegged for Sunday Night Football, has been moved up to a 4 PM EST start on Fox. After an alleged outbreak of COVID-19 on the Raiders emerged, I surmise the league thought it would be better to miss a 4 PM slot versus its money-making primetime game.

Surprisingly with the news and subsequent injury reports, the line hasn’t moved much, making me think the inside information is indicating the COVID-spread isn’t as wide as originally feared.

Let’s take a closer look at where the chips have fallen and where the remaining value lies.

Overview

Following a bye, the week got off to a rocky start for the Raiders as starting right tackle Trent Brown, who practiced with the team at their facilities on Monday, tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, the entire starting offensive line, as well as star safety Johnathan Abram were sent home with orders to isolate as the team tried to determine just how far the virus may have spread.

For the Raiders, any disruption to the norm could be devastating for their season, as they sit 3-2 in a crowded AFC playoff race.

Buccaneers fans (and bettors) got a scare this week when Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski weren’t at practice on Wednesday, in what turned out the be a rest day as confirmed by head coach Bruce Arians. Just days after their 38-10 demolishing of the Packers, where Gronk scored his first touchdown as a Buc, the team appears to be on the mend after some early injuries that now appear to be manageable as the halfway point of the season approaches.

With a depleted offensive line and their franchise quarterback still under center, I see a more conservative game plan playing out from Gruden and his staff which features a heavy dose of the run game. I expect the Buccaneers to have enough firepower to go up early and run the ball themselves, ticking this one town faster than expected.

Bottom Line

While it’s still largely unknown what this Raiders depth chart will look like come Sunday, especially it’s the offensive line, we can be sure it has been anything but status quo this week. In a sport and league focused around routine and reps, I have to lean towards it being detrimental to a team that can already use all the help it can get.

Knowing we can expect at least one starter on the offensive line out, with as many as four potentially, I like the prospect of laying inside of a touchdown with a team that at full strength might not even be worthy of the number.
