Overview

We witnessed what was probably Tom Brady’s worst career game in Week 9, and it was on prime time television. There’s a pretty solid chance he bounces back, after a great week of preparation. He has a full receiving corps, with Antonio Brown learning more of the playbook and Chris Godwin getting healthier. Defensively, Tampa still ranks third in yards allowed per play (4.9). Following two down performances for this group, expect them to bounce back. They will need to get pressure up front for their defense to succeed. With the Panthers having a 16 percent matchup disadvantage in pass blocking, per Pro Football Focus, expect just that to happen. Teddy Bridgewater also continues to be one of the worst quarterbacks under pressure, completing 58.2 percent of his passes, throwing five interceptions, and having a 47.3 passer rating under pressure this season.

The Panthers will again be without Christian McCaffrey, after injuring his shoulder last week. While Mike Davis has filled in nicely, he has struggled in recent weeks on the ground. Over his last three starts, just one game was over three yards per carry. With Tampa allowing the fewest yards per rush (3.3), the pressure will be on the passing offense to lead the way for Carolina. As stated above, Teddy has struggled when he sees the heat from the pass rush.

Depending on which Tom Brady and Tampa team show up, this could turn into a rough game for Carolina.

Trends

  • Tampa Bay is 2-4 against the spread (ATS) in its last six games.
  • The total has hit the over in 14 of Tampa Bay’s last 20 games.
  • Carolina is 5-2 against the spread (ATS) in its last seven games.

3rd Quarter Spread: Buccaneers -0.5 (-104):

Despite last week’s struggles, Tampa Bay still ranks fourth in the league in third quarter scoring offense (6.0). Carolina, on the other hand, is among the worst third quarter teams in football, averaging just 2.7 third quarter point per game.

Bottom Line

After an embarrassment in Week 9, the Tampa offense will bounce back against a Panthers defense that they already put 31 on earlier this season. After an early lead in the game, the Bucs should be able to commit to extra pass rushers, forcing Teddy Bridgewater into too many mistakes for them to cover.

Pick: Buccaneers -4.5
