Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Giants Odds & Game Pick (2020)

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have established themselves as a force in the NFC after starting the season slowly. They are picking up steam and are now trying to show that they can replicate good performances on a regular basis. The New York Giants found a way to lose to the Philadelphia Eagles last week on Thursday Night Football, as a bad season managed to get worse. Now, these two teams meet on Monday Night Football, with the Giants facing the task of trying to keep the nation entertained for at least two hours if not all three.

Overview

The Bucs were 3-2 through five games and did not look like a Super Bowl contender. Tom Brady was off. He wasn’t precise in his throws and was not meshing as well with his receivers as a lot of people expected. The Bucs’ defense was smoked by the Los Angeles Chargers (though Brady rallied the team to a win), and Tampa Bay faltered in the fourth quarter of a frustrating one-point loss to the Chicago Bears, who have a below-average offense. The Bucs needed a spark, but as soon as they found it, they kept it and haven’t looked back.

The Buccaneers trailed the Green Bay Packers, 10-0, on Oct. 18. They were going nowhere as the second quarter began. Then they scored 28 points in the quarter – mostly due to Tom Brady coming alive, but also because of a pick-six against Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers. The Buccaneers blasted the Packers to move to 4-2, and carried that momentum through a 45-20 beatdown of the Las Vegas Raiders on the road this past Sunday. Brady is now in rhythm. His receivers are trusting him more. The Tampa Bay offense led by coach Bruce Arians and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is meeting the high expectations a lot of Bucs fans and NFL pundits had before the season started. This is what everything was supposed to look like. Tampa Bay has found its groove and leads the NFC South near the midpoint of the season.

The Giants led the Eagles 21-10 midway through the fourth quarter but then lost the plot in the final minutes, allowing two touchdowns to fall, 22-21. The Giants had a chance to seal the game with a first down, leading 21-16 with just over two minutes to go, but tight end Evan Engram dropped a pass on third down. The Giants punted. The Eagles got the ball back and drove downfield for the winning score in the final minute. The Giants’ best chances to win games this year are in the NFC East, so by letting an opportunity slip away against the Eagles – who have just two wins on the season – it’s hard to see how the Giants can change the equation against Tom Brady and the red-hot Bucs.

Trends

  • Tampa Bay is 4-2 ATS in its last six games.
  • The total has hit the over in 15 of Tampa Bay’s last 20 games.
  • The Giants are 0-3 ATS at home this season.

Bottom Line

The Bucs are playing the way they want to; they aren’t just talented, they’re maximizing their talent at the moment. The Giants have just one win in a terrible NFC East. They have lost to the Eagles and Cowboys. The gap between these teams is huge, and it will show on Monday night.

Prediction: Tampa Bay 34, New York Giants 13
