Tennessee Titans at Cincinnati Bengals Game Odds & Pick (2020)

The Tennessee Titans get a perfect spot to bounce back from their first loss of the 2020 season. A trip to Cincinnati to face the 1-5-1 Bengals should serve as the ultimate rebound. But will Tennessee be caught a little hungover after a tough loss to Pittsburgh? Let’s break down the matchup:

Overview

The Titans fell to 5-1 despite a valiant comeback effort last week against the Steelers. Offensively, Tennessee’s strength remains to ride Derrick Henry. The Titans rank ninth in rushing offense and 20th in passing offense.

Despite being so reliant on the ground game, Tennessee is the NFL’s eighth-highest scoring offense. The reason for that is incredible execution in the red zone. The Titans have scored touchdowns on 80% of their red-zone possessions, which ranks second behind Seattle.

At 1-5-1, the Bengals aren’t quite as dynamic. But there is hope in the Queen City. Joe Burrow has shown plenty of promise as a rookie, leading the NFL’s seventh-best passing game. The Bengals have a strong receiving trio headlined by Tyler Boyd, A.J. Green and rookie Tee Higgins. However, Cincinnati’s offensive line is a mess and has gotten Burrow sacked 28 times this year.

Despite their ugly record, the Bengals have been competitive in Zac Taylor’s second season. Four of Cincinnati’s losses have come by single digits, and the Bengals have blown leads in their last two defeats.

The Bengals won’t have running back Joe Mixon this week, as he deals with a foot injury,

Trends

  • The Bengals are 3-5 ATS as a home underdog since 2019 under Zac Taylor.
  • The Titans are 4-5 ATS as an away favorite since 2018 under Mike Vrabel.
  • Overs are a combined 8-4-1 in Titans and Bengals games in 2020.

Bottom Line

As is the key in most Tennessee games, it’s critical to look at Cincinnati’s rush defense when handicapping this matchup. The Bengals have given up the sixth-most rushing yards in the NFL this year and are surrendering 4.9 yards per rushing attempt. However, Tennessee’s defense isn’t much better. The Titans rank 20th in net yards per pass attempt and are also giving up 4.9 yards per carry.

Most importantly, Tennessee doesn’t rush the passer effectively, which is crucial against Cincinnati’s horrid offensive line. The Titans have only seven sacks on the season and generate pressure on just 19.5% of opponent dropbacks.

While Tennessee should dominate on the ground, Burrow and the Bengals could answer back through the air. I don’t love either side of this matchup and would rather take the over in what could be a high-scoring affair.
