Wimbledon Men’s Tournament Picks (Tennis Betting)

The 2019 Wimbledon Championships are about to start and let’s be honest — this tournament is mostly down to three players: Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal. At the risk of being too boring and too predictable with our picks, we broke down our selections into three categories: a pick among the Big Three, a pick among the next wave of players, and a pick from the longshots. Here’s who we’ve got:

Best Favorite: Novak Djokovic
Odds To Win Wimbledon: +121 at PointsBet Sportsbook

The favorite to win the tournament is truly the best bet to win the tournament as well. Rafael Nadal just won the French Open. Sure, he might win two majors in one and a half months, but he hasn’t won Wimbledon since 2010. Roger Federer won Wimbledon in 2017, but he didn’t play Djokovic to get there. Djokovic was injured and retired in the quarterfinals against Tomas Berdych.

When Djokovic is healthy, as he was last year, he wins this tournament. It is that simple. Nadal’s best surface is clay and Federer is in the twilight of his career. Djokovic has won four Wimbledons this decade compared to two for Federer and Andy Murray, and one for Nadal. This is his tournament to lose.

Best Mid-Range Flier: Milos Raonic
Odds To Win Wimbledon: +3300 at PointsBet Sportsbook

Our player priced between +1500 and +3500 with a possible chance of making a run in England is Raonic, who was a finalist in 2016 and lost to eventual champion, Andy Murray. Raonic also made the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2014 before losing to Federer and he made the quarterfinals last year and lost to John Isner.

Raonic’s huge serve makes him such a tough out on grass. He has the big game which plays effective first-strike tennis and puts opponents on the defensive. He knows how to play on grass, and he knows how to execute his shots. That is a very tough combination for a man whose idol was Pete Sampras, a seven-time Wimbledon champion.

Raonic’s chances of doing damage at the Australian, French, or U.S. Opens really aren’t very high in this or any other year, but Wimbledon is clearly his best tournament and the one place where he can realistically come alive and cause problems to his opponents.

Best Long-Range Dart Throw: Kevin Anderson
Odds To Win Wimbledon: +4000 at PointsBet Sportsbook

The player with a price outside the +3000 range who should be given at least some consideration in your Wimbledon projections and picks is Anderson, the 2018 runner-up. He has run into injury problems – an elbow – this year, and has played very little tennis, but Anderson will surely be motivated to prove people wrong. If he can get some easy opening-round matchups, he might be able to play his way into form.

The other thing to realize with Anderson is that he is the No. 4 seed despite being the No. 8 player in the world rankings. This is due to the seeding formula Wimbledon uses for the men’s tournament. The formula includes points from the past 24 months of grass results, so Anderson’s 1,200 points from last year’s final enabled him to climb from eight to four in the seedings.

As a result of being seeded fourth, Anderson avoids Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic until the semifinals or final. If he has to play one in the semifinals and that player loses early, Anderson could get the path he needs to contest the title.
