The 66th Annual Grammy Awards: Odds, Picks & Predictions (2024)
The greatest honor in the music world returns to Crypto.com Arena on Sunday, Feb. 4. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by Trevor Noah for the fourth straight year, as the brightest stars in the industry go to Los Angeles to get recognition for their incredible talent and hard work.
The top nominee is R&B icon SZA, who had nine nominations, and her album “SOS” topped the Billboard Top 100 chart for 10 straight weeks. Filled with a fusion of confidence and vulnerability, there are many reasons that this album’s nine nominations are justified.
Another interesting spin to this year’s awards is that Victoria Monét’s two-year-old daughter, Hazel, is a featured artist on her mom’s album “Hollywood.” Victoria Monét is up for seven Grammys in her own right.
Who do you think will come out on top this time around? Here are my predictions on who, from a star-studded ballot that includes Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and the aforementioned SZA, will come away victorious this year.
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards: Betting Odds & Suggested Picks (2024)
(My picks with the best value are in bold)
Record of the Year
- “Anti-Hero” by Taylor Swift (-300)
- “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus (+250)
- Kill Bill by SZA (+250)
- “What I Was Made For” by Billie Eilish (+650)
- “Not Strong Enough” by boygenius (+700)
- “Vampire” by Olivia Rodrigo (+900)
- “On My Mama” by Victoria Monét (+2000)
- “Worship” by Jon Baptiste (+2300)
While Swift is a heavy favorite in this category, this is a betting category with a ton of value on the board every year. With that said, I believe that after eight previous nominations, Cyrus finally gets her flowers for this track. Simply put, this is the best song in all aspects of the records listed.
It is a deeply rooted emotional track, structured flawlessly and executed to perfection by everyone from Cyrus to her songwriters and production team. It will certainly be tough to outdo Swift and SZA to get this award, but this is the song to do it. I think both SZA and Swift will get a few Grammys this year, but you can feel Cyrus’ emotion through the speakers, as this speaks as the modern heartbreak anthem.
Best New Artist
- Ice Spice (-600)
- Victoria Monét (+170)
- Fred Again (+400)
- Noah Kahan (+800)
- Coco Jones (+800)
- Gracie Abrams (+1500)
- Jelly Roll (+2000)
- The War and Treaty (+2000)
I do think that Ice Spice’s rise was quick and meteoric. Still, her price is a bit fishy to me, given that the other accolades she is getting are collaborations with other artists that are much more established and are frankly such big names that they grab the headlines of the tracks they made together.
That said, I am not implying that she does not deserve to be on this list or have an argument to be the favorite. Still, I believe that the value on Victoria Monét is insane for how close the race between the two is. If I were making odds, I would probably have them both at -105 because I could see either winning this award. If anything, Victoria Monét would be the favorite because of her seven nominations, meaning that the Academy clearly values her contributions in many levels of her work.
