What To Expect From Manny Pacquiao

It’s no secret that Pacquiao doesn’t have the same punching power that he did in his prime. However, the 40-year-old is still one of the most technically sound fighters in the world, and that has served him well while winning four of his last five fights overall. In fact, Pacquiao scored a TKO win over Lucas Matthysse thanks in large part to his outstanding technique. After following that up with a beat-down of Adrien Broner, Pacquiao has to feel confident that he is ready to take on Thurman.

Pacquiao will continue to rely on his movement and angles to keep Thurman off balance and avoid getting caught with one of his heavy punches. There is no denying Pacquiao’s pedigree, the only question is whether or not it will be enough to take down one of the most talented opponents he will have faced in recent years.

What To Expect From Keith Thurman

Thurman is 29-0-1 all-time, and he looked just fine in his return to action this past January. “One Time” was considered the future of the welterweight division before a car accident cost him two years of his career. However, after recovering from all of his injuries and working his way back into fighting shape, Thurman took down Josesito Lopez to retain his WBA (Super) welterweight title.

Thurman considered that victory over Lopez his “tune-up” for his upcoming showdown versus Pacquiao. There is no doubt that he has upset potential, especially with his size and strength advantage over Pacquiao. Ultimately, it will come down to whether that strength and power will be enough to overwhelm the veteran Pacquiao.

Outlook & Pick

While Pacquiao is the bigger name and a legend in his own right, he isn’t invincible as we saw in his loss to Jeff Horn in 2017. Pacquiao has rebounded with back-to-back wins, but Thurman represents a much tougher challenge than he faced against either Matthysse or Broner. It was only a matter of time before Thurman got his shot at Pacquiao. Despite a two-year delay following a wreck that nearly cost him his career, Thurman is now ready for the opportunity and set to shine. He offers good value as a small dog in this spot.

Pick: Thurman +108
