Best Bet To Win The League: PSG
While there isn’t much value betting on PSG to win the title at -900 odds, there really isn’t much doubt that they are the obvious best bet to get the job done. PSG owns one of the best attacking tandems in the world with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. They’ve also improved their depth heading into the second year under manager Thomas Tuchel.
They won the league by 16 points last season and have won the title in six of the last seven seasons. They’re the most talented club in France’s top flight. Although you might be tempted to take a shot on another potential contender from a value standpoint, the smart money is on PSG to win the Ligue 1 title.
Best Value Pick To Win The League: Lyon
Despite some quality odds, there are obvious flaws when it comes to picking a value option to beat out PSG for the league title. However, it’s important to keep in mind that injuries happen and with rumors that Neymar isn’t happy with his club’s performance in the Champions League, there is at least a small silver lining at which we can look in a different direction hedging our bet on PSG.
Lyon, in particular, stands out as a team that could make a title push. Last year’s third-place team handed PSG one of its four league losses a year ago. They’ve also been a consistent contender near the top of the table that could very well capitalize should PSG finally falter. It’s still a long shot, but at +900 odds it might be worth taking a chance on Lyon to shock the soccer world and win the Ligue 1 title.
Best Bet To Win The Goal Scoring Title: Mbappe
PSG’s Mbappe led the Ligue 1 scoring race with 33 goals, scoring in 22 different league matches last season. Now the star Frenchman is set to turn 21-years-old in December. Heading into the prime of his career and with another year of experience under his belt, Mbappe could stand to improve on last year’s goal-scoring performance with PSG this year. All things considered, it’s clear that Mbappe is the favorite to win the Ligue 1 goal-scoring title this season.
First Coach To Get Fired: Jardim
The 2018-19 season was an absolute disaster for Monaco, which ended up firing Thierry Henry and then bringing back Leonardo Jardim for a second stint. There has been a sense of optimism surrounding the club heading into a new season. So much so in fact that Monaco is listed as the second favorite to win the Ligue 1 title behind only PSG. However, those expectations could end up coming back to haunt Jardim and his club. Jardim was fired midway through the year last season only to be brought back three months later. If Monaco struggles to live up to expectations as a legitimate title contender, Jardim could get sacked and replaced by an option that ownership feels has the better opportunity to bring this team back to a championship-contending level moving forward.
