The Citadel Bulldogs vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers Odds & Game Pick (2021)

Week 1 of college football is here. Bettors are going to be excited about this game. Last year Coastal Carolina was a bettors paradise. Hitting the over, six of their last ten games and going 11-1 on the season. Coastal Carolina had an amazing betting year. There is no doubt about that. Bettors hope they can continue to be consistent this year. Pay attention to the entire Sun Belt conference this year. The conference has some stronger teams this year.

The last time these teams played, Citadel won 41-38. The difference this year is Coastal Carolina has Jamey Chadwell. Hired in 2019, Chadwell made an immediate impact on Coastal Carolina. Citadel Coach coach Brent Thompson finds himself in the hot seat after coming off a disappointing 2-10 season. Citadel looks to get a couple more wins this season. Here is a preview and the best be for Citadel versus Coastal Carolina.

Overview

Coastal Carolina looks to have another strong season this year. After averaging 450 yards and 37 points per game last year. All the key pieces are returning, besides starting running back CJ Marble. QB Grayson McCall opens up as the Sun Belts Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, following a rookie campaign in which he won the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Play of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Key WR Jaivon Heiligh gives McCall a target in the passing game. Expect this offense to continue to put up points this season.

Citadel is coming off a season that they averaged 291.3 yards and 16 points per game. Citadel’s only preseason-selected player on offense is lineman Haden Haas.  Dual-Threat sophomore Jaylan Adams will start for Citadel. With one season under his belt, the sophomore will look to improve as he learns the offense. Swiss army knife WR Raleigh Webb is back this year. Citadel will try to feed Webb the ball this year unless another player starts to shine. The first game of the year will tell us a lot about this young offense.

Defensively both of these teams look to be average. Giving up an average of 30 points per game last year. Citadel will have problems stopping this high octane offense. Coastal Carolina looked better, giving up 20 points on average. Both of these teams lean on their offense to win the game.

Bottom Line

Coastal Carolina wins this game. Citadel does not have the firepower to keep up with this offense. Coastal Carolina is just a better overall team. They are going to get lots of opportunities on offense and will score on a lot of them. Citadel will get a couple of scores towards the end of the game. Coastal Carolina almost beats the over by themselves. The over is the best play for this game.

Pick: Total Over 54.5 (-120)
