The Match V: Bryson DeChambeau vs. Brooks Koepka (2021 Golf)

The Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, NV, will play host to the ultimate grudge match between two golfers who have had plenty of issues with each other over the past 18 months. Though some of it halted by a successful appearance for both at the Ryder Cup, this matchup still offers plenty of juicy headlines for fans to get excited about.

Making the event even more fun, Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley will serve as commentators and be tapped into the event throughout the day.

Let’s take a closer look at the event (and its odds) itself, and see where the value remains.

Bryson DeChambeau (-125) vs. Brooks Koepka (+105), Friday 5:00 PM EST

Odds via DraftKings Sportsbook

Watch: TNT, TBS, TruTV / HLN

Format

Unlike in Match’s past, this event will feature at most 12 holes and be a straight match play event. The golfer who wins the most holes, with the potential of a playoff, will win the event.

Additionally worth noting, the sequence of holes won’t be straightforward, as the golfers will be zig-zagging the course playing 16, 3, 12, 13, 11, 5, 14, 9, 7, 8, 18, and 17.

Betting Breakdown

By many reports, one of the main reasons DeChambeau took off the fall slate thus far was to prepare for this match, and while that seems like a stretch, if someone were to, it’s him. The last time we saw him on a course was the Tour Championship, a solo 7 finish.

Looking at 2021 as a whole, DeChambeau was #1 on Tour in SG: OTT (1.162), #5 in SG: Tee-To-Green (1.36), and #2 SG: Total (1.823), with few golfers having more complete seasons in recent memory from a metric standpoint.

For Koepka, the storyline coming into this one has been his poor play to start the 2021-22 season. IN the four events he’s played, he’s missed two cuts, with his best performance being a T38 five weeks ago here in Las Vegas.

Conclusion

While there were certainly some concessions given by both of these guys to agree to do something like this (and financial motivation), there seems to be a genuine dislike from both parties.

Despite much being made about Koepka’s form lately, I think we see a renewed energy in this one, with the world watching and pressure at an all-time high. Clearly the better golfer on paper, I see Koepka having a mental edge over DeChambeau head-to-head and for Bryson to be in his own head early in this one.

Pick: Brooks Koepka +105
