Tiger Woods Withdraws From PGA Championship

Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the 2022 PGA Championship after the third round. He was tied for last (76th) heading into Sunday after shooting a +9 on Saturday and was reportedly struggling physically throughout the weekend. He finishes the tournament at 12 over.

The 79 was a career-worst for Woods at the PGA Championship and was his fifth-highest score. Woods entered the tournament at +7000 to win on FanDuel.

He barely made the cut on Friday but decided after Saturday’s round he is not physically able to continue.

Earlier on Saturday, Woods said he was deciding whether or not to play the tournament’s final 18 holes on Sunday because of the pain he was feeling in his leg.

After one of the worst rounds of his professional career on Saturday, Woods told the media, “Well, I’m sore. I know that is for a fact. We’ll do some work and see how it goes.”

Woods is just 15 months removed from a near-fatal single-car accident that resulted in significant damage to his right leg. At the time, his leg was in such bad shape that amputation was discussed by his medical team.

While Woods has since returned to the golf course, it’s clear that the 46-year-old is still dealing with issues with his surgically-repaired right leg.
