Top 3 MLB Betting Picks for Sunday, September 19 (2021)

Welcome back for another Sunday, friends. We’re almost there. We only have two more Sundays of baseball left together before the playoffs, so let’s make the most of them. For the first time this season, we aren’t targeting any monyelines today. That almost makes me feel a little empty inside, so I’ll throw in a couple of bonus picks. If you’re looking for some moneyline picks, take the Mariners (-134) and the Phillies (+108).

Here are my top betting plays for Sunday, September 19. Have questions or want to talk baseball or betting? Feel free to reach out on Twitter @mikeMaher.

The consensus odds for this matchup have the line at Red Sox -1.5 runs for -120, but you may need to give 2.5 runs to get those odds at your preferred sportsbook. Fox BET currently has the line at -2.5 for -110, and I’m fine giving up the 2.5 runs there, to be perfectly honest. The Orioles are all caps BAD and appear to be pulling fans out of the stands to pitch at this point in the season. The Red Sox are battling it out for one of the final two Wild Card spots in the American League, and Sunday’s starter Nathan Eovaldi has somewhat quietly been very solid for Boston this season. Boston won 9-3 on Saturday, and I’m expecting a similar score on Sunday.

Dodgers-Reds UNDER 9.0 Runs (-110)

These are two above-average offenses, so targeting the under may feel like an odd play here. But Sunday’s pitching matchup is Clayton Kershaw vs. Wade Miley. Kershaw is, well, Kershaw, while Miley has been solid all season for the Reds. Now, Miley has allowed five earned runs in two of his last three starts, but he has an ERA of 3.09 that has been below 3.00 for much of the season. We’re also probably only getting five or six innings from Kershaw, but the Dodgers have a good bullpen that will be up to the task. While I don’t expect Sunday to be a full-blown pitchers’ duel, I do expect the under to hit fairly easily.

Padres-Cardinals OVER 9.0 Runs (-110)

Take everything that we just said about the Dodgers-Reds matchup and flip it upside down for this Padres-Cardinals game. This matchup features Jake Arrieta for the Padres against J.A. Happ against the Cardinals. These pitchers are almost capable of giving up nine runs on their own. Arrieta features a 7.05 ERA and has allowed six runs over 8 2/3 innings since joining San Diego. J.A. Happ has a 6.00 ERA and has allowed 11 earned runs over his last 11 1/3 innings. Oh, and neither of these offenses is a slouch. For over bets, I like to target potential implosions, and this game has that potential on both sides.
