Top 3 MLB Betting Plays for Thursday, September 10

Not much lead-in needed here; I went 3-0 in this space yesterday, so let’s just get to the picks and see if I can’t make you a little more money on Thursday’s slate!

Here are my top MLB betting plays (Odds courtesy FanDuel Sportsbook):

Kansas City-Cleveland Over 7.5 (-122)

This total is a little confounding. Royals right-hander Brady Singer posting a 5.58 ERA and a 1.8 HR/9 rate for the season. Cleveland counterpart Aaron Civale has surrendered 10 runs in 18 innings over his previous three starts while surrendering three home runs. Both offenses rank in the bottom six league-wide in wRC+ for the season, but this is far from a pitcher’s duel – and this total is too low given the caliber of the starters in this one.

NY Yankees -1.5 (-130)

This play was a successful one Wednesday, so I’m going back to it with the Yankees enjoying a significant pitching mismatch. Gerrit Cole allowed five runs on four hits over six innings in his previous start against the Orioles on Sept. 5, but four of those runs were unearned. The Baltimore offense is humming, which builds some risk into this pick, but Cole is one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball – and the Yankees’ lineup is no slouch.

Chicago Cubs Under 3.5 Runs (-132)

The Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals have traded 3-0 victories in the first two games of their divisional series, with runs at a premium. And we see the Cubs running into even more difficulties against Reds star Sonny Gray, who boasts a K/9 rate approaching 12 while having allowed just three home runs in 42 1/3 innings. And current members of the Chicago lineup have slashed a pitiful .102/.153/.179 against Gray. The under on the Cubs team total is a strong play.
