Saturday's Best MLB Picks & Bets
(Odds courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook)
Toronto Blues Jays (-110) vs. Minnesota Twins (-110) | O/U 8.0 (-115/-105)
The Blue Jays (34-29) are catching fire, having won eight of their last nine games. That includes last night's 6-4 victory over the Twins (34-29). The two sides are back at it this afternoon, and this American League showdown features a pitching matchup between Kevin Gausman and Chris Paddack. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. ET from Target Field in Minneapolis, MN.
These are two of the hottest offenses in the Majors, so even though we have a couple of serviceable starters, I think this is a great opportunity to play the over at a deflated number of eight runs. Over the last seven days, the Jays lead the league in wOBA (.391) and wRC+ (157), while ranking third in ISO (.227). In those same categories, the Twins are sixth (.355), sixth (131) and 10th (.172).
During their 8-1 run, the Blue Jays are scoring four runs per game, and they've seen seven of those contests go for 10+ runs. The Twins have seen 10+ runs in four of their last five games. Give me the over in the Twin Cities to get the day started.
Bet: Over 8.0 Runs (-115)
Houston Astros (-135) vs. Cleveland Guardians (+115) | O/U 7.0 (-120/+100)
The Astros (35-28) notched a 4-2 series-opening victory over the Guardians (33-29) last night, and they'll turn to Hunter Brown to try and keep things rolling. Cleveland counters with Gavin Williams in this American League tilt, which gets underway at 4:10 p.m. ET from Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH.
Runs should be tough to come by in this game. The Guardians have finished under 7.5 combined runs in their last five games. They'll turn to Gavin Williams to continue that trend, and he's been solid with a 3.79 ERA this year. At home, his ERA dips to 3.38, and opponents are hitting just .236 against him. Williams draws a Houston offense that has struggled recently, ranking 25th in wOBA (.270), 24th in wRC+ (72) and 20th in ISO (.138).
Cleveland will be running into Houston ace Hunter Brown. The right-hander has been one of the best pitchers this season, ranking fourth in ERA (1.83), sixth in WHIP (0.91) and 11th in strikeouts (86). Brown has two straight quality starts, where he has logged a 0.75 ERA over the 12-inning sample size. Both of these bullpens rank 15th or better in ERA, and we'll also get a boost from Mother Nature with the wind blowing in from center field at around nine miles per hour (MPH) at first pitch. I'll take the under.
Bet: Under 7.0 Runs (+100)
Baltimore Orioles (-120) vs. Athletics (+100) | O/U 10.5 (-110/-110)
Following a horrendous 1-20 run for the Athletics (24-40), they've bounced back to secure two consecutive wins. They toppled the Orioles (25-36) 5-4 last night in Sacramento. Tonight's pitching matchup pits Charlie Morton against Luis Severino. First pitch is set for 10:05 p.m. ET from Sutter Health Field in Sacramento, CA.
It has been an ugly season for the Orioles, but they may be turning things around, as they're 6-1 in their last seven games. I'll lay the -120 juice and play them on the Moneyline in tonight's MLB nightcap. Charlie Morton (6.20 ERA) hasn't been good this season, but he does have excellent head-to-head numbers against the Athletics. Their current roster is just 2-for-16 (.125) against him with a .516 OPS.
On the other hand, the O's have owned Luis Severino (4.54 ERA) throughout his career. Their current lineup is slashing .432/.475/.622 against him over 37 at-bats. Factor in that the A's bring in a bullpen ranked dead last in both ERA (6.15) and WHIP (1.68), and I expect the Orioles to find plenty of offensive success. Give me Baltimore to stay hot and collect another win.
Bet: Orioles Moneyline (-120)
