New York Mets vs. New York Yankees
The pitching matchup is begging for a Yankees win. Cam Schlittler (13-6) is one of the best in the game, and while Christian Scott (4-4, 3.81 ERA) is not bad, he is not at the same level as Schlittler. However, the Mets have been killing it at the plate over the last week, hitting .309 with an MLB-best 14 home runs. The Yankees haven't been bad at the plate - .273 with nine home runs - just not as good.
The Yankees won 6-4 on Friday, but were clobbered 12-2 by the Mets yesterday. Schlittler, while he has not always had his best stuff at home, has been on point in his last six starts, allowing no more than one run per game. He'll get control of a volatile Mets lineup today while the Yankees’ offense takes care of Scott.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+118)
Cincinnati Reds vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Reds starter Chase Burns (15-3, 2.73) is going to have his hands full against a Brewers lineup that put up 20 runs on his team on Friday night and followed it up with a 13-run effort yesterday. When he faced them in Milwaukee on July 2nd, he had a solid outing - six innings, four hits, two earned runs.
Brewers starter Robert Gasser (4-5, 4.48 ERA) has not faced the Reds this season and has not made it into the fifth inning in five of his last seven starts. That suggests we should expect a lot from the bullpen today. But that's a good thing as it has one of the lowest ERAs in baseball (3.57).
Burns will not let the Brewers’ offense go off for a third consecutive day. However, I doubt he'll get enough run support from his lineup (.240 batting average over the last week) to keep up. The Brewers will pull Gasser at the first sign of trouble and let the bullpen take it home.
Pick: Brewers -1.5 (+105)
Kansas City Royals vs. Boston Red Sox
I wouldn't call this a marquee pitching matchup, but Noah Cameron and Payton Tolle have been solid in recent weeks. Both had quality starts their last time out, with Cameron shutting out the Diamondbacks and Tolle giving up just one run. Tolle has had the better overall season (9-6, 3.15 ERA), but Cameron has the hotter hand (4-0 in August with a 1.87 ERA).
I'd lean toward taking the Royals to win. But with neither lineup hitting well over the last week (Kansas City: .220; Boston: .218), the under is the better bet today.
