Top 3 NBA Betting Picks for Wednesday, October 13th (2021)

The preseason roars on as we now sit inside of a week before the start of the 2021-22 NBA regular season. While most teams have their players fully vaccinated and ready to go, a few hold-outs remain as the NBA has seemingly drawn a line in the sand and has refused to budge on the issue.

Let’s take a closer look at how teams are fair so far and where the value remains on tonight’s slate.

1. Hornets +5.5 | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook

In what will be tonight’s nationally televised game (ESPN), the Mavericks hit the road to Charlotte looking to keep their preseason winning streak alive. The last time we saw them on the court was a 122-114 win vs. the Clippers at home, as Eugene Omoruyi led all scorers with 19 in a back and forth game.

For the home Hornets, their last time on the court was a 103-104 road loss to the Heat, as their starting five played much deeper into the game, many over 30 minutes. In this one, I like for the Hornets to continue their strategy of getting their starters reps late and hang around this one long enough to get the cover.

2. Pistons +8 | -110 at DraftKings Sportsbook

Meaning little to nothing, it’s worth noting the Knicks have not only started out this preseason 2-0 but scoring an average of over 120 points in the process. The last time we saw them on the court was a road game in DC, one in which their starters played over 20 minutes each, and SG RJ Barrett walked away from the high scorer with 18.

On the other hand, the Pistons come into this game following a blowout loss to the Grizzlies (92-127) in which first overall pick Cade Cunningham was held out once again with an ankle injury. In this one, I like for a re-focused Pistons team to keep this one close vs. a Knicks team who plays again on Friday ahead of next week’s opener.

 3. Jazz -2 | -110 at FanDuel Sportsbook

Tonight’s late game on NBA TV features two teams who are expected once again to be contenders in the NBA playoffs in the Bucks and Jazz. Both come in on off of their first win of the preseason. The Jazz looked sharper, scoring 126 points and holding the visiting Pelicans to just 96.

In this one, I look for both teams to play their starters late into the second half and for the home Jazz to win this one outright as they look to build chemistry with some new faces in this veteran lineup.
