Today’s Best NHL Bets

Let’s look at a few of our best NHL bets for Sunday’s slate of action.

Boston Bruins (+106vs. Carolina Hurricanes (-128) | O/U 6 (-104/-118)

The Bruins are in a spot they haven’t been in all season and have lost back-to-back games.

The thing is, they’re not playing badly — they’re not being outshot, losing face-offs, or being blown out—two one-goal losses, including allowing a tying goal with three-second left and losing in overtime.

It is not the time to go into panic mode after losing two tough road games.

Tonight will be the third tough matchup in game four of this five-game road trip.

You could argue that the Hurricanes are one of the best overall rosters in the league.

Their offense has been incredible, with the best Expected Goals Percentage, and the defense has continued to be one of the better units with the fewest Goals Expected Against.

Carolina has bounced back from dropping four straight to winning six of their previous seven this week.

Whether it’s Antti Raanta or Frederik Andersen against Linus Ullmark on each side, this will be an exciting and physical matchup. This game could go either way, and that’s why I’m taking the under.

Pick: Under 6 (-118)

Washington Capitals (+120vs. Toronto Maple Leafs (-144) | O/U 6 (-120/-102)

After the Capitals were incredible in December, they simmered to start 2023 and have yet to win back-to-back games this month. What could be a lack of chemistry from the team, having players come in and out of the lineup, the offense can push the puck, but they’ve had trouble finishing.

Darcy Keumper has had some wasted efforts recently, but he’s been exceptional all year with 5.7 Goals Saved Above Expected.

The Maple Leafs have been playing well, winning four of their last six. This talented forward unit was not playing up to expectations earlier this year, but now you have William Nylander, Mitchell Marner, and Auston Matthews, John Tavares not far behind.

What’s also going to make them a threat in the playoffs is the upgrade in goaltending from last year. The Leafs brought over Matt Murray and Ilya Samsonov after finishing 20th in goals allowed last season. Samsonov will start against his former team, and he’s currently sixth allowing 2.37 goals per game.

The revenge game aspect gives Samsonov a little more motivation, but he’s also backed up by an offense that has been playing so well recently. Toronto does not allow many shots, and for a Washington offense already not able to convert shots, the fewer chances will hurt them.

Pick: Maple Leafs ML (-144)
