Top Jets vs. Raiders NFL Sunday Night Football Picks & Predictions (Week 10)
Let’s dive into Sunday Night Football for Week 10 and look at our top pick for Jets vs. Raiders.
NFL Sunday Night Football Picks
Jets Outlook
Week 10's edition of SNF features two 4-win teams, with the Jets traveling to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders in their 2nd game after firing former HC Josh McDaniels. The Jets offense has been horrendous this season, obviously coming nowhere close to the ceiling that they perceived they would have if Aaron Rodgers was at the helm. The Jets gain the fewest yards per possession of any team in the NFL, rank 2nd-worst in points per possession, and rank 3rd-worst in percentages of drives that end in a score and 1st downs gained. They're actually a top-5 team in terms of net yards per rushing attempt, but because they are chasing points in most of their game scripts, they have the 4th-fewest rushing attempts of any team. That means they must be passing more than they want to, which is not a good sign for the NFL's 3rd-worst team in terms of net yards per passing attempt. Lucky for them, their defense has once again kept them competitive and allowed them to win ballgames. They rank in the top-5 in terms of points and yardage allowed per possession, net yards allowed per pass attempt and passing TDs allowed. They also generate turnovers at a top-10 clip and rank just outside the top-10 in rushing yards allowed per attempt. For the Jets to have any kind of success tonight (and moving forward), they need to lean on their defense and running game to grab early leads to set up positive game scripts for their offense.
Raiders Outlook
Meanwhile, everything obviously seems to be fixed in Las Vegas as the Raiders were lighting up victory cigars in the locker room after beating... the 2-7 Giants with Tommy Devito at QB? All jokes aside, that was the perfect storm for interim HC Antonio Pierce and rookie QB Aidan O'Connell to step into as the Giants really couldn't do anything offensively and they were able to lean on their defense and running game to cruise to an easy win. On the season though, the Raiders are not a good football team. Offensively, they rank 24th or worst in 1st downs gained, points scored per possession, yards gained per possession, net yards per rushing attempt, passing TDs, and they lead the entire NFL in turnover percentage at 17.6%. They've been poor on the defensive side of the ball as well, ranking 25th or worse in 1st downs allowed, net yards allowed per rushing attempt, rushing TDs allowed, points allowed per possession and opponent's time of possession. Simply put, if Maxx Crosby isn't generating havoc, this team is extremely susceptible on the defensive side of the ball.
Best Bet
The line movement for this game has been interesting, as the Jets began the week as short favorites before briefly becoming short underdogs during the middle of the week and eventually settling as short favorites. The Antonio Pierce story is awesome, and I think the bump the Raiders got from seeing Josh McDaniels walk out the door was real, but I don't see them carrying over last week's win against a 3rd string QB on a bad Giants team into long-term success. Both teams are really bad offensively, but the Jets do have the more efficient and dynamic running game if they're able to play to a game script that allows them to feed Breece Hall. The Jets also have the far superior defense of the two teams, and I really don't like that matchup for Aidan O'Connell as the NYJ defense can put pressure on him (he took 7 sacks in a Week 3 start against the Chargers) and potentially bait him into a few turnovers. It's never fun to back Zach Wilson as a favorite, but I'll trust the Jets defense to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard and lead the Jets to a victory.
Pick: NYJ ML (-110)
