Top MLB No Runs First Inning (NRFI) Picks & Odds: Reds vs. Cardinals

St. Louis earned the win in the series opener last night in Missouri thanks to a dominant outing from the pitching staff. The Cardinals won 2-0 and they'll look for their second straight win this afternoon as Adam Wainwright takes the ball. Hunter Greene gets the nod for the Reds as they look to square up the series in this N.L. Central thriller scheduled for 2:15 p.m. ET from Busch Stadium.

Greene will look to build off of arguably his best outing of the year when he toes the rubber this afternoon. The 22-year-old rising star last threw on Monday and held the Diamondbacks scoreless over 7.0 innings, allowing just one hit while punching out eight. The shutout appearance took his ERA down to 5.40 and his WHIP sits at 1.35 entering today's contest.

Waino has two straight quality starts to his name and he continues to perform at a high level despite being 40 years old. The veteran right-hander held the Cubs to a pair of earned runs on nine hits and two walks on Sunday. He went 7.0 innings in the no-decision effort and the team improved to 7-4 in his starts. Wainwright enters this matchup with a 2.73 ERA (16th) and 1.23 WHIP (37th).

Both of these starters are in great form right now. Despite a 5.40 ERA, Greene is developing quickly, and he continues to show his potential and why he's going to be a force in the Majors for years to come. Since he only gave up one hit last time out, I'll back him to keep the Redbirds scoreless in the first inning. As for Wainwright, he brings his ERA down to 2.40 when throwing at Busch Stadium. Look for the crafty veteran to bring his best stuff this afternoon and help the Cardinals maintain their 0.5-game lead over the Brewers in the Central. Let's lock in NRFI here.
