Top MLB Parlay Odds & Picks for Saturday, April 16th (2022)

Today we feature two of the best hitting teams in the league and we could certainly see that display continue in their matchups on Saturday. We also have a team whose offense is underachieving and might not recover anytime soon.

Arizona Diamondbacks (+140) vs. New York Mets (-160) O/U 8 (First Pitch 1:10 p.m. ET)

The Mets have started their season playing well, as their 10-3 win on Friday over Arizona gets them their second three-game winning streak of the season. They are one of the better offensive teams in the league as they’re top 10 in runs per game (7th), hits per game (8th), on-base percentage (2nd), and OPS (4th).

They will send Carlos Carrasco to the hill, who had a strong 2022 debut, allowing just one run in 5.2 innings. He looked like the old Cleveland Carrasco last week after an elbow injury shelved him for most of last season.

It won’t be too hard to hold down an Arizona offense that just cannot hit the ball as they’re near the bottom of the league in almost every offensive category. Just one player is hitting over .201.

They’ll feature Zac Gallen, who will make his 2022 season debut after being skipped over in the rotation due to a finger issue. Gallen is coming off the worst season of his career, going 4-10 with a 4.30 ERA. Starting this season playing one of the best offensive teams in baseball is going to be a tough assignment. The Mets have been a safe bet against the D-Backs, going 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games.

Leg 1: Mets ML

Oakland Athletics (+190) vs. Toronto Blue Jays (-235) O/U 9 (First Pitch 3:07 p.m. ET)

A 4-3 start is better than expected from Oakland after the team spent the offseason shipping out their best players. A lineup without Matt Chapman and Matt Olson is currently third in runs per game (6.0) and 12th in hits per game (7.8).

The A’s Peter Blackburn will make his second start, and he was terrific in his first outing. He came out with a win by pitching five shutout innings and striking out seven against the Rays. Blackburn struggled last year as he won consecutive starts just once and was 1-3 with an 8.44 ERA on the road. This is a true test against this impressive Toronto lineup.

The Blue Jays’ recent track record against Oakland is phenomenal. With Friday’s 4-1 win, the Blue Jays have won seven straight against the Athletics at home. Not only have they been beating Oakland, but it’s not even close — over the last 14 games, Toronto has outscored them 93-49 and is 10-4 against the spread.

They are sending up a struggling Hyun Jin Ryu, who gave up six earned in his first start against the Rangers. Ryu is coming in with an extra day of rest, but the Jays will deliver enough firepower and get the win even if he struggles.

Leg 2: Blue Jays -1.5

Atlanta Braves (-110) vs. San Diego Padres (-110) O/U 8 (First Pitch 4:05 p.m. ET)

The softer schedule should have helped the defending champion collect some early wins, but splitting a four-game series against Cincinnati and losing two of three to Washington is not the start they were hoping for.

The offense is sitting middle of the pack in most offensive categories, and the team ERA of 5.58 is 28th. The team’s 4.38 runs per game is not an accurate telling of how bad it’s been as that’s inflated by the 16-run game they had against the Nationals. They have just two games this season where they’ve scored more than three runs.

In his first start against the Reds, Ian Anderson struggled badly, allowing five earned and five walks in 3.2 innings. Anderson cannot afford control issues against a San Diego offense whose 11.4% walk ratio is third in the league.

After playing in Japan for the last four years, Nick Martinez pitched a gem in his first MLB game since 2017 and gave up just a run in five innings against San Fransisco. Martinez was using his cutter and changeup very well with his four-seam fastball. This could be a great strategy against the Braves, who finished 27th in whiff percentage last season.

Leg 3: Padres ML
