Top MLB Parlay Odds & Picks for Thursday April 29 (2022)

Let’s get ready for another weekend of the baseball season. As we’ll wrap up the first month of the year, we’re getting a clearer view of who will be contenders this season. There are a couple surprise team teams playing well and one of these matchups features two of them. We also have some really good teams with the opportunity to get wins against others not playing as well.

San Diego Padres (-180) vs. Pittsburgh Pirates (+155) O/U 7

(First Pitch 6:35 p.m. ET)

The Padres are coming into their second-straight series against a bottom-tier team in the NL Central. They went on an offensive tear in Cincinnati by scoring 24 runs in the three games series. San Diego has been playing well on offense this season, even with Fernando Tatis Jr., as they're tenth in runs (4.42) and ninth in on-base percentage (.323).

They'll send up Yu Darvish and the overall numbers don't look good, but that's because in his first outing he allowed nine earned in 1.2 innings. In his last two starts, he's been much better by allowing just one earned in 12.2 innings.

The Pirates come into this game hitting a rough patch as they were just swept at him by the Brewers. To take away some positives, they only lost the last two games by a total of three runs.

Unfortunately in those last two games, they only managed three runs. This lineup has not been productive all season as they have the fifth-lowest XSLG (.390), last in hard-hit percentage (37.5), and expected batting average (.251).

Pittsburgh will start Zach Thompson and he has had a rough go to start the season. In 10 innings he's allowed 20 hits, 12 earned, and opponents are hitting .392. His biggest problem has been his sinker, which is his second-highest thrown pitch, has no moment and batters are hitting .571 off it.

You have to give the Padres a big advantage, especially in the pitching matchup. Darvish looks like that initial bad start was a one-time hiccup and should be fine against a bad offense. He should also get plenty of run support against a pitcher who's struggling to get outs.

Leg 1: Padres ML

Seattle Mariners (-120) vs. Miami Marlins (+100) O/U 7.5

(First Pitch 6:40 p.m. ET)

After an initial rough start to the season by losing four of their first six, the Mariners have begun to right the ship by winning seven of their last ten. They've been getting it done with power as they're eighth in slugging percentage (.400) and fifth in home run percentage (2.9) this season.

Seattle has a top 100 prospect Matt Brash going on Friday and his stuff is electric. With excellent movement on pitches, his curveball has the fourth-highest average spin rate in the league and his slider breaks almost 10 inches more than the average this season. His problem this season is his endurance - in innings 1-3 he has a 2.00 ERA, while in 4-6 it's 7.50. He needs to learn how to be effective the second time around in the batting order if he wants to win games.

Miami's two young stars are making a name for themselves this year. Jazz Chisholm Jr. has started the season off well as he's batting .308 and seventh in the NL in slugging (.673). His other young co-star Jesus Sanchez is batting .284 with three home runs and 10 RBI.

Miami will go with Elieser Hernandez who is a former top 10 pick that has not lived up to expectations. This year he's pitching worse than 4.75 career ERA at5.87 and has allowed four or more earned runs in two of his three starts.

While you like Seattle in this game overall, it will depend on what Brash does in the last couple of innings. Hernandez looks vulnerable against a Seattle offense that comes with power. The Mariners can hit the long ball and Hernandez is averaging a dreadful 3.5 home runs allowed per game. The 7.5 total is way too low for this game.

Leg 2: Over 7.5

New York Yankee (-210) vs. Kansas City Royal (+175) O/U 8

(First Pitch 8:10 p.m. ET)

The Yankees are looking like the Bronx Bombers as they put up 27 runs against the Orioles in their three-game series. Anthony Rizzo's three-home run performance on Tuesday put him as the league's home run leader at eight and is fourth with an OPS of 1.098.

It's Nestor Cortez who's been the Yankees' best starter to begin the season. Yet to be involved in a decision, the team is 2-1 when he starts and has a 1.15 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 15 innings.

Cortez's 14.4 strikeout rate will be tough to match against a Kansas City lineup that puts the ball in play, as they have the third-lowest strikeout rate this season (20.4).

Although they do put the ball in play, it hasn't resulted in much productivity as they're 28th in BABIP (.240) and at the bottom in hard-hit percentage (35), barrel percentage (7.1). The Yankees have been the best defensive team this year and shouldn't allow cheap hits or extra outs.

The Royal will send up Kris Bubic who's been awful to start the season. Currently, with a 14.14 ERA and a 3.000 WHIP, he's only pitched out of the third inning once in three starts this year.

New York's bats are on fire as they've scored ten or more runs in three of the last four games. 11 of their 13 wins have been by more than one run and with a lopsided pitching matchup, bank on 12.

Leg 3: Yankees -1.5
