Top MLB Player Prop Odds & Picks for Wednesday, April 22 (2022)
The weekend is upon us, which means all 30 teams are in action today. Games get underway at 2:20 ET this afternoon as the Cubs host the Pirates for the second game of their four-game set. This weekend’s other exciting series includes Brewers vs. Phillies, Guardians vs. Yankees, Red Sox vs. Rays, Blue Jays vs. Astros, and Dodgers vs. Padres. There are plenty of options on the betting board tonight, so let's narrow in on a few player props that I'll be locking in today.

Nick Castellanos O/U 0.5 Total Bases
It's a 7:05 ET first pitch between the Brewers and Phillies as they open up a three-game series from Citizens Bank Park in Philly. Freddy Peralta gets the nod for the Crew while the Phillies counter with Ranger Suarez.
Freddy Peralta hasn't been sharp out of the gate in 2022, allowing nine runs over 7.0 innings in two starts. Last time out, the right-hander gave up six earned runs on seven hits and two walks in just 3.0 innings of work against St. Louis. Peralta's 0-1 overall, with an 11.57 ERA and 2.29 WHIP.
Nick Castellanos inked a five-year, $100 million contract with Philadelphia over the offseason. The 30-year-old slugger is slashing .306/.382/.571 with three home runs and seven RBIs over 13 games. He's coming off a 3-for-4 performance against the Rockies, where he hit a home run in the series finale. As for the head-to-head statistics with Peralta, Castellanos has faced him in 13 at-bats, and he's 7-for-13 with four doubles and a long ball. I like Castellanos to reach at least one total base in tonight's game.
Bet: Nick Castellanos Over 0.5 Total Bases (-175 via DraftKings)
Jesus Aguilar O/U 0.5 Total Bases
The Atlanta Braves open up a three-game series at Truist Park tonight, where they'll be hosting their divisional foes, the Miami Marlins. Kyle Wright heads to the bump for the Braves while Trevor Rogers goes for the Marlins.
Kyle Wright has been exceptional in starting the new campaign. The right-hander has made two starts and allowed just two earned runs over 11.0 innings pitched. Wright's most recent outing was against the Padres, where he limited them to two earned runs on five hits while striking out nine batters.
Jesus Aguilar has struggled to start the season, collecting just eight hits over 39 at-bats. The veteran first baseman is hitting .205 with 10 strikeouts and no home runs. He has faced Kyle Wright four times in his career, where he's hitless with a strikeout. I'm expecting Wright to stifle Aguilar at the dish tonight before handing it over to the ninth-ranked bullpen in terms of WHIP (1.11). Give me the under on Aguilar's total bases.
Bet: Jesus Aguilar Under 0.5 Total Bases (+140 via DraftKings)
Matt Chapman O/U 0.5 Total Bases
This weekend, the most intriguing series takes place in Houston, where the Astros gear up to host the Blue Jays. Justin Verlander will go for the home side while Toronto opts for Ross Stripling. The first pitch in game one of the series is tonight at 8:10 ET from Minute Maid Park.
There were questions surrounding how Justin Verlander would fare after missing two full seasons with Tommy John Surgery. But the 39-year-old veteran quickly quashed those questions as he's been dealing through two starts. Verlander has posted a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings pitched and allowed just six hits and three free passes. It seems as if the crafty right-hander hasn't skipped a beat.
Matt Chapman was acquired by the Blue Jays over the offseason, coming over from the A's in a trade. He's been off to a respectable start, slashing .273/.347/.455 with two home runs and eight RBIs. However, the third baseman has struggled mightily against Verlander in his career. He's just 1-18 against the righty with nine punchouts. With the way that Verlander has started the season, combined with the head-to-head stats, I think Chapman goes hitless tonight in Houston.
Bet: Matt Chapman Under 0.5 Total Bases (-125 via DraftKings)
