Top MLB Team Totals Odds & Picks for Tuesday, April 12 (2022)

We’re back with another 15-game slate today in Major League Baseball, starting with the Red Sox taking on the Tigers at 1:10 ET. There will be plenty of action all day, and we’ll conclude with the Padres taking on the Giants at 9:45 ET.

As for yesterday’s picks, we went 1-1 (-0.17 units) on team total bets, and that pushed us to 5-9 overall this year, where the $100 bettor is down $289.71 (-2.90 units). Luckily for us, there’s plenty of baseball left to be played this season, and we have time to get back in the black. Below I’ve listed three team totals that I’ll be betting on throughout the day:

Cincinnati Reds O/U 4.0 Total Runs

The Battle of Ohio is set for 4:10 ET as the Reds host the Guardians for a two-game series at Great American Ballpark. Both starting rotations are rolling over, so we have Shane Bieber going for the Guardians while the Reds counter with Tyler Mahle.

On Thursday, Shane Bieber made his season debut against the Royals and limited them to one earned run over 4.2 innings of work. He allowed just three hits, walked nobody, and struck out four hitters. Bieber only threw 72 pitches in the outing, so look for him to continue ramping it up and going deeper into games as the season progresses.

It looked like the 2020 Cy Young winner didn’t skip a beat in his debut, and I’m expecting him to build off of that against the Reds this afternoon. Bieber has faced this Reds lineup over 52 at-bats and limited them to a .161/.206/.392 slash line. Cincinnati lost several key players in Nick Castellanos, Eugenio Suarez, and Jesse Winker over the offseason, so this might be a down year for the Reds. Look for Bieber to limit them to under four runs and turn it over to a solid Cleveland bullpen. Take the under on Reds runs today.

New York Yankees O/U 4.5 Total Runs

Last night, the Blue Jays took game one of this four-game set at Yankee Stadium with a 3-0 victory. Game two has the first pitch set for 7:05 ET, with Yusei Kikuchi making his Toronto debut and Nestor Cortes going for the Bronx Bombers.

Yusei Kikuchi is a left-hander who came over to the Jays via free agency in the offseason. Last season, he went 7-9 with Seattle with a 4.41 ERA and 1.32 WHIP. Kikuchi made two starts against the Yankees last season and allowed five runs over 10.0 IP.

The current New York lineup boasts a slash line of .291/.365/.565 over 54 at-bats with four home runs and two doubles. Kikuchi is a guy that I’m not very high on entering this season, and I think he will struggle in the A.L. East. The Yankees know that if they want to have a successful series against Toronto, they’ll need to score a lot of runs. This is their opportunity against a lower-tier pitcher to run up the scoreboard and get back in the win column. Take the over on New York’s run total.

Bet: New York Yankees Over 4.5 Total Runs (-122 via FanDuel)

Colorado Rockies O/U 4.5 Total Runs

Our final bet comes in the second of a two-game series between the Rockies and Rangers in Arlington. The Rockies topped the Rangers 6-4 last night as +118 underdogs in game one. Colorado sends Chad Kuhl to the bump while Texas opts for left-handed Martin Perez.

Martin Perez returns to Texas after pitching with the club from 2012 to 2018. He spent a year with the Twins and two with the Red Sox before returning to Arlington. The lefty is coming off a 7-8 year with a 4.74 ERA and 1.51 WHIP.

Most people aren’t too excited about the Rockies heading into the new season, but they possess some potential on offense. They’re the seventh-ranked offense so far this year in both runs scored (21) and team batting average (.275). Only five players on Colorado’s roster have faced Perez in their careers, but they’re key players. Charlie Blackmon is 3-3, Kris Bryant is 1-3, C.J. Cron is 7-21, Randal Grichuk is 4-12, and Jose Iglesias is 4-17. The Rockies are swinging the lumber well right now, and I like them to put up at least five runs tonight in Texas.
