Top NBA Betting Pick for Saturday, September 26th

The NBA playoffs have been quite the treat. The NBA Finals picture is starting to crystallize, but as we have learned this postseason, nothing is truly over until it’s over. The Boston Celtics staved off elimination last night thanks to an unreal 20-3 run to start the third quarter that helped them pull ahead of the Miami Heat. The series is now 3-2 for the Heat, with the Boston Celtics holding the momentum.

In the Western Conference, we have the Denver Nuggets in a familiar place, down three games to one. No one thinks they can pull off three games in a row, but we all would have said the same thing when they were down 3-1 to the Los Angeles Clippers. Denver is going to have to play a complete game to regain the momentum in this series.

As expected, the Conference Finals have been a disaster for our percentages. We stayed in the winning column by riding with Anthony Davis on Tuesday and now sit a disappointing 34-25 on the postseason. Here’s hoping we can creep closer to the 60 percent mark.

Anthony Davis over 28.5 points (-120)

  • Averaged 26.1 points per game during the season
  • Averaged 29.1 points per game against the Nuggets during the season
  • Averaging 28.9 points per game during the postseason
  • Averaging 32.25 points per game this series
  • Over in three out of four games this series

Anthony Davis continues to impress in the postseason. He has mysteriously been inactive on the glass (seven rebounds total in his last two games) but has been helping shoulder the load on offense. He has bumped his postseason scoring average from 28.9 points per game to 32.25 in the Western Conference Finals. For a player who averaged ‘just’ 26.1 points per game during the season, this is an elite leap. As echoed in this column before, the push to get Anthony Davis ready for the Finals MVP has been underway in earnest over the last two rounds. There are times when the ball simply stops coming his way, but when he remains involved the Lakers are at their best.

At this point of the series, it would be more of a surprise if Anthony Davis did not cross the 30 point barrier than if he did. He has scored 29 or more points in three of the four games this series, with the only under coming when LeBron simply stopped getting the ball to his big in the fourth quarter. With that said, the whole world knows that the key to the Lakers success in this series is Anthony Davis’ ability to dominate on the inside. 29 points is never as easy as it sounds on paper, so we will keep this to a one-unit play at BetMGM.

Pick: Anthony Davis over 28.5 points (-120)
